[He waves with his weirdly glassy metallic looking hand, the expression on his face chipper. The backdrop for this video is the same room, though maybe it looks a little more lived in. The door is open and might look like it's still seen better days as far as it's hinges go.]

I really don't like the idea of anyone turning into stone if I can help it, so I thought I'd offer to help anyone out who needs it. No judgement or anything! Just let me know and we can make time...

[He trails off here, lifting his hand to scratch a the back of his head, fingers ruffling blonde hair for a moment.]

I just want to help out and I've got two perfectly good hands. We don't have to talk or anything! So it wouldn't be like you owed me either. If you need a hand [heh.] Think about it okay?

[ Well he should try to not be!! ]

The simplicity and ease of it are of little consequence. Do you not see the flaw in this? You're offering to do everything for people you have never even met, and want nothing in return, people will take advantage of that and you know it. [ Yet Vash continues to do it, which is the problem!!! ]

When does it end for you? [ Why does he care so much about everyone, even in this world? Knives doesn't get it at all. ]

[This is such a familiar, stressful conversation, one that he is pretty sure he has the steps to memorized. He can feel the annoyance in his brother's response, but how can he do any differently?]

[But that's the problem, he doesn't think it will.]

I just want to prevent anyone from suffering, if I can.
If someone is hurting and I can help them, why wouldn't I?

Even after the humans back home used you, us, you still think they won't do so here? A new world doesn't mean a new way of thinking for them. I thought we learned that back on No Man's Land. Humans will abuse whatever power and resources you give them.

[ A pause. Maybe it's because of his time being 'good' at that tree but the next thing he types is oddly open and emotional to some degree. ]

You wouldn't need to handle anything if you didn't keep sacrificing yourself for everyone. This offer of yours, did you ever consider how it might affect those that care about you, brother? [ He's talking about himself, mostly. ]

[He's heard this first half before, in so many words. It's so familiar he barely registers reading it. A new world DOES mean there's a chance for something different, humans are so full of potential so why wouldn't there be?

But the second part hits him in his chest like a boulder barreling down a mountain. He's not certain if he's ever heard something so raw from his brother.]

[No, he didn't. His thoughts flicker from his brother to wolfwood and their argument only a few days ago. What's being said here is such an echo of that it's terrifying.]

[ If only Vash could hear the pained laughter coming from Knives right now. Ah, this is just how it's always going to be, isn't it? After all this time and yet he still... ]

Of course you didn't, you never do, do you Vash? [ That's why he's the one that needs to protect you. It's always everyone before himself with Vash, isn't it? ]

[He's rather tragically short-sighted when it comes to his own safety and self-preservation. It's likely never going to change either as he keeps running back to humans even if they turn on him. He could get hurt 100 times and he'll still hold out hope that the 101st time he won't. ]

[What is he good for if he doesn't do that much?]

[ It's always going to be the same thing every time they talk, isn't it? ]

You're so naive, even now. You still put them before yourself. [ Vash will never change, just like himself, but now that they're in a place where they can talk any time they wish it's a bit...difficult, to say the least. Seeing his brother's antics like this annoys him. ]

So, you're just going to keep sacrificing yourself for them even if it means hurting yourself and others in the process. [ That's why Vash is sick and needs to be fixed, is what Knives thinks as he reads over his brother's words again and again. Knives is hm...frustrated, admittedly?? Seeing Vash constantly putting himself in harm's way for this filth pushes his aggravation to a whole different level.

He wants to type something in bitter retort, something along the lines of 'you can't see those who actually cherish you for what you are and only crave the validation from the disgusting humans that use you and fear you'. But instead, he just takes a moment to look at the screen on his device before closing it. This'll only end in another argument, he's sure, so leaving it here is for the best. ]
