I never told you when I reached out to him.

[Meaning, he knows his friend had been here for awhile, long enough to have texted back in that time. They actually arrived at the same time, even.]

Either way, I'm not going to push it. I just wanted to vent. I've made friends here and my friends at home are safe. As much as I said it sucks to not have him recognize me, I don't think I want him or anyone else from home here.

It'd just give them a false sense of hope.
