Let's say that you have an issue. Something you can't do, because of bad experiences - trauma even - in the past. The circumstances aren't the same here, but you've got a lot of baggage.
You don't have to do the thing. You can avoid it, easy. It's a little weird, you're a little weird, but no one's going to pressure you into it or anything. But the fact that you can't do it just because of your dumb brain kind of pisses you off? It's the easiest thing in the world, you know nothing awful will happen if you do it, but it still scares you for stupid reasons! You feel stupid about it!
How much is it worth trying to do the thing that scares you and try to get over your issues when you could probably just avoid doing it forever?
