'tis more that this isn't the first time I've found myself in such a position - and one of the difficulties that world faced was that, even once a source of the... corruption was destroyed, there was nowhere for that corruption to go. It merely remained, and corrupted the previously uncorrupted, and so made itself a new source. It wasn't until a way could be found to remove the excess entirely, at the moment of the previous source's death, that any progress could be made...

If that were to be the case here, we'd have to approach it quite differently to if it were not.
