{ it’s later in the day after the guilds have opened, giving him enough time to firstly speak to the power holders, but then assemble his notes into what could be considered concise enough to share with the public. olwen had clearly had worries of overwhelming people on arrival, but without information in place it’s impossible to actually assess the situation and make their own choices on what to do. }
Greetings. { and at first glance, it seems as though the man who appears partially in the camera doesn’t know how to use it. only part of his face shows, along with the tell tale sign of someone holding onto papers in their hand. his voice, at least, will be recognisable for anyone who has met him before. } I have information to share regarding our situation, since I imagine many of you are rather busy, I’ll try to keep this as short as possible. For any of you who may have doubts about my sourcing of this, all the information I will present here is free for anyone to search for themselves in the library or by asking the power holders themselves.
According to the history books Amberfall library has on this world, no one can remember the world being anything but the seasonal segments and the neutral ground in the centre, though they have obviously adapted and grown over time. As for the seasonal powers, they appear to be blessed to humans who entered a particular segment, though not everyone was blessed with these powers. Magic differs from these powers, and people here can learn that with practice.
Now, the topic of interest is the ‘Tragedy of Greed’. This describes a group of people who were overly eager for more and wished to have the powers of all the seasons. They would absorb powers from others, essentially murdering them, until one day one of them was able to possess all four. It’s quite extraordinary how grotesque this next section is, so I’ll save the commentary, though a warning of how their powers went berserk and caused destruction will hopefully be enough to deter those of you who may have been considering this. I should note, this happened to all of those in that group who managed to steal powers from others. For those who hear this message and fear the worst, I can confirm that Olwen ensured that there was magic involved with our summoning that will stop any of us from doing the same.
{ he takes a pause, and a sharp smile is visible on the camera - still partially obscured but it’s there } We wouldn’t want anything bad to happen, now would we?
Next, the Darkness that inhabits this world now has been sealed to stop it from spreading, but obviously that is not enough to restore balance. Anyone who has been curious enough to step further afield has likely seen for themselves the state of the segments, which is why we have been brought here to help.
As you may have noticed, many of the locals are apprehensive of us being here and fear the worst. For the time being, it may be best for those willing to help them feel more comfortable, aid them however you can. Time is likely the only means we have for their unease to fade.
Unfortunately, as they have said, the summoning itself is entirely random and there is recognition that there are many of you { not ‘us’ } will never have experienced danger like this before. I’d like to recommend that a support group be created for those that are worried about what they can do to help or how their safety can be ensured going forward. Experience in battle should not be the only skills that are honed, after all.
Meanwhile, I’d like to suggest that those of us who are able to explore the segments do so in groups to ensure safety. From what Olwen could tell me, there are still a lot of unknowns there and concerns of how we can proceed until more resources can be built. Please do not listen to Sawyer if he encourages you to go alone to show your bravery, if anything that would only show your foolishness.
Ah, goodness me, this was awfully long. There are more details I uncovered about the Fairies, Sirens and Mermaids of this world, but as they seem less important at the moment. Feel free to contact me if you wish to learn more. Of course, you can read all about this yourself at the library if you would prefer.

He was pleasantly surprised to see someone had done some investigation of their own.]
So this whole thing started due to some power holders being greedy bastards, huh?
And we're sure none of us outsiders can replicate that process?
no subject
{ considering half his word is dealing with people like that. }
I have been reassured that there are mitigations in place to stop that from happening, yes.
un: starbound
That was really thorough. Has Olwen guaranteed that magic from outside this world will not also trigger the same events as we accumulate the seasonal powers?
no subject
It wouldn't do to not present all the information I have when perhaps many people here may not even know where to begin. Though, I wouldn't say guaranteed, but there does seem to be reason to trust that these seasonal powers differ enough.

Lovely.
[Sounds like they have quite a group of natives at their hands.]
It doesn't surprise me people let their greed ruin the world.
no subject
So it would seem. A little rebellion, perhaps? { anyone who went to the autumn guild event would have been apprehensive he seemed about being there anyway. }
Nor does it surprise me. It is, after all, an unfortunate flaw to human nature.

Any suggestions on how to make the locals feel more at ease? If we are going to be stuck here, we might as well do our part and cheer them up!

There are usually requests posted on billboards, but offering assistance or working hard at your job may be enough to start.

[Alisaie has watched the video more than once, and has obviously been taking notes: when she starts her own broadcast, there is a pen in her hand, and a closed notebook visible on the table beside her.]
And all this is in the library? Goodness, I have been remiss. What titles would you recommend in particular? Please don't think that I doubt your word for all this, I'd simply feel happier working from the source.
[[OOC: Please don't worry about making up titles! Graduate scholar here, so she's just gotta be awkward and demand sources.]]
no subject
A good portion of it, yes. Some I obtained from speaking to the four seasonal power holders themselves. Granted, not all of them were forthcoming with the information. I'll send a message with the titles I found to be most useful, along with the aisle number.
{ ooc: no worries at all! he'll have sent a text about twenty minutes later because he types like a dad on the phone SDGSDG takes 20 years to type a word. he would have kept notes on the sources as well as he knows he wouldn't have trusted it without info on that either so dw }

Thanks, that lines up with what I've read in the library so far, too.
...The Tragedy of Greed, though, what a mess. I guess I shouldn't be surprised people would be willing to practically kill each other to get more power like that.

In my experience there tends to be a lot more scheming than direct power grabbing, which is perhaps a hint about the power dynamics of this world.

You're very well researched. Thanks for the information.
You're sure there's no way to undo the magic that's keeping those from stealing power from others? Seems a bit arrogant to believe that someone won't find a way around it.
no subject
{ that goes both ways, after all. }
But it does seem to be a condition of the summoning itself. You're welcome to try, I'm rather curious to see what would happen.

Your labors in service to enlightenment are to be commended. I had gleaned most of this myself through my own research and interactions with the local population, but our briefing could have been more thorough on some of these points. Hospitable though our new lodging may seem, this is no game, and full disclosure is essential if they truly wish for us to trust in them.
This business of the four segments is interesting, no? It defies all conception of what a planet ought to be. One has to wonder what would be found if a rocket were to be launched into the atmosphere. When we look down from the great blackness of the sky, would what we see even be able to be categorized as a planet? This more closely resembles the spatio-dimensional anomalies invoked by certain demons, on a truly vast and intricate scale.
Re: un: devilbreaker
I said the same to them when I was asking these questions. The problem seems to lie with some of us brought here would potentially be overwhelmed with the information if they were up front about it. I can't deny there are many people who likely would find that to be the case.
{ but the rest of her thoughts are a little too progressive for the type of world he's from. fontaine is making advances in technology, yes, but it's nothing to the scale she talks about. }
The four segments actually has some similarities to where I'm from, at least the nation itself had lightning storms and other weather activity that was uncontrollable. I think we have to assume that until anything is proven we cannot necessarily only take our own experiences into account. { it would be dumb of them to be close minded on this. }
