006: Spider Troubles (Text; un: ushiromiya_eva)

[tw spiders/spider eggs]

Good evening Ellipsa.

As Amberfall's library is proving remarkably unhelpful in this regard so far, does anyone here have any reference material on different types of spider eggs that they can provide? Especially those native to Ellipsa that wouldn't be recognisable to Otherworlders like us.

As soon as possible.

Ushiromiya Eva

[...Eva was very much hoping she wouldn't need to give any explanation or context to this rather specific request.]

I don't know anything about spider eggs, but what's the situation?

[Did she find some in her house..? Can't she just throw them out? Or did her frequent arachne episodes induce maternal feelings in her, and she wants to ensure ideal hatching conditions for them? Should he be concerned..?]

In this instance, the fan expresses her disapproval well enough!

Do you need me to come over?

[It wouldn't be the first time he pays her a crisis visit!]
mayoninofukucho: (Here we go again.)

I'll need to assess the situation first of all.

[Why does this woman have to be so vague, paranoid and unforthcoming?! But regardless--]

I'll be on my way.
mayoninofukucho: (Behave!)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2024-11-17 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah... sure. But seriously, fill me in already.

[How bad can it be?? It doesn't seem like her apartment is covered in giant red spiderwebs like the last time!]
mayoninofukucho: (Let me think.)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2024-11-18 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
[Sadly for Eva, Hijikata can be daft. He plainly doesn't understand what has her so agitated about her discovery.]

I don't get why this is such a problem. If you don't want it in your apartment, just throw it out.
mayoninofukucho: (Excuse me?!)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2024-11-19 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
[It still takes him a moment, but seeing her upset red face along with those words, the penny finally drops.]

Wait a moment, hold on!! You think you may have laid that egg?! Wouldn't you have... noticed that?

[If giving birth were that unwitting of a process for humans, people definitely would have more babies!]
mayoninofukucho: (Are you serious?)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2024-11-25 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Good point.

[He frowns, really putting his brain cells together. If she really laid that egg, wouldn't that mean... but no, he's not going to ask her about what happened in the lead-up!! He'd like to make it out of here alive.]

...

Let me see the egg first of all.
mayoninofukucho: (Idle)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2024-12-08 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's see here.

[He retrieves the egg with care, then studies it with Eva.]

Honestly, it doesn't look like a spider egg to me. Aren't those round and kind of soft? This one looks more like a chicken egg. The shell is hard, too, see?

[He gently raps on it with his finger.]

It reminds me of the pokémon eggs - but don't nail me down on that!
mayoninofukucho: (Yeah yeah.)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2024-12-09 10:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I know it's goddamn weird, but even the ones that I'd take for mammals hatch from eggs. It may be better not to think about it too hard. Anyway, this one is alive!

[He offers it to her. After all, now that the scare is more of less diffused, she may want to take care of it! (Part of him kind of hopes that it doesn't contain another cat pokémon. Eva's cat lady status is already cemented enough as it stands!)]
mayoninofukucho: (Smoke Break)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2024-12-16 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a mystery. I thought all our pokémon were still young... but then, there are animals that mature really fast, so chances are it differs from species to species for them, too.

[Still, wouldn't the pokémon have had to find a mate first? But if Eva lets them roam freely, all bets are off on that front.]

If you want to ensure that it hatches, keep it warm.
mayoninofukucho: (Satisfied)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2025-01-14 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I won't say no to that.

[Honestly, he's a little excited. If the pokémon hatches while he's here, that'll be special moment! He still remembers how his Honedge hatched... it was barely dagger-sized back then, but it grew up amazingly fast.]
mayoninofukucho: (Surprised)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2025-01-14 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[Why do ghosts always have to target him?! He jolts a lot, probably only adding to the cats' amusement! But when he, too, hears the eventual crack, he outright jumps up from his comfortable seat.]

It's the egg. Come on! Sometimes eggs need a little help.

[Who's fussing now?]
mayoninofukucho: (New Hope)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2025-01-14 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hijikata watches with bated breath and clenched fists, as if we were following a sports match - and with Eva having to catch the hatchling, it's equally tense! But with the pokémon fully hatched, he quickly steps up to clean it.]

So it was a spider, after all.

[Still, this is a pokémon... right? Once the small creature is tidied up and turning around itself in Eva's hands, taking in its surroundings for the first time, he opens the Pokédex on his phone and searches for 'spider pokémon'.]

I'm pretty sure it's a Spinarak! It's a bug-slash-poison type.
mayoninofukucho: (Happy)

[personal profile] mayoninofukucho 2025-01-15 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Hijikata wants to argue that it really didn't look like a spider egg, but lets it go. Seeing Eva talk to the baby pokémon after she was so stressed out earlier makes him happy.]

Looks like you have a web-spinning buddy now.

hope you don't mind a late one!

Spider eggs?

I may be able to offer some insight from a medical perspective, but whether or not that would be useful would depend on what you require the information for.

I would recommend removing any insect eggs that you find in your residence regardless of whether or not they belong to spiders.

[personal profile] physicianhealthyself 2025-01-19 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
Are you at least entirely certain they belong to spiders, and not something else?

Given the nature of some of the creatures populating these lands I would not say that noticing anything lurking about would be a *given* regardless of its size.

Have you seen any other signs of what it might be?

Why don't we shelve the threats of violence for the moment.

You said there's a... pokéball?
