006: Spider Troubles (Text; un: ushiromiya_eva)
[tw spiders/spider eggs]
Good evening Ellipsa.
As Amberfall's library is proving remarkably unhelpful in this regard so far, does anyone here have any reference material on different types of spider eggs that they can provide? Especially those native to Ellipsa that wouldn't be recognisable to Otherworlders like us.
As soon as possible.

[Did she find some in her house..? Can't she just throw them out? Or did her frequent arachne episodes induce maternal feelings in her, and she wants to ensure ideal hatching conditions for them? Should he be concerned..?]
I need some angy icons
[Right now, Eva's not sure whether someone who knew about her Arachne troubles responding to this is a good thing or not.
It made it all the more difficult to explain without humiliating herself!]
I want to know what the fuck made a mess of my house. That's all!
[Perfect!]
In this instance, the fan expresses her disapproval well enough!
[It wouldn't be the first time he pays her a crisis visit!]
Do not perceive-
[She knew she was being a little uncharitable! But she really didn't want to spell out her suspicions here.]
That or help me search to see how anything else could have just snuck in without my noticing.
[...Frankly, the idea a giant spider had snuck into her house and dropped an egg was alarming enough, but the alternative was even worse.]
👁️
[Why does this woman have to be so vague, paranoid and unforthcoming?! But regardless--]
I'll be on my way.
> Action!
[In times she forgets he's as hard-headed as she is! Still, perhaps this would be easier to explain in person, right?
For now, she'll just have to wait for him to arrive- and once he did, Eva went to the door quickly to let him in. As she was human right now, it was only the untidy state of done-up hair that betrayed her agitation.]
Hey. First off, keep this to yourself, alright?
no subject
[How bad can it be?? It doesn't seem like her apartment is covered in giant red spiderwebs like the last time!]
no subject
So I was clearing up some of the left over spiderwebs in the spare room. Seriously, that stuff's like sand, just when you think you've got rid of it-
[Shaking her head, not able to meet his eyes- this was humiliating! Absolutely humiliating! Her cheeks were already starting to redden from frustration and embarrassment.]
And something's- look, I found a weird egg in the last lot I was clearing out and I want to know how the fuck it got there, alright??
[Whilst she didn't stay it directly- she really needed to know that it hadn't come from her Arachne form.]
no subject
I don't get why this is such a problem. If you don't want it in your apartment, just throw it out.
no subject
Sure, sure, I can toss it out but that's not the issue here!
[Aiming a jab at his chest with her fan, face still an interesting shade of red.
At least he was going to keep this to himself...]
Am I really going to have to spell out why suddenly finding what's probably a spider egg in amongst the webs I made is a problem?? It's not like I wouldn't have noticed if any other giant spiders were showing up to- to leave their eggs here!
no subject
Wait a moment, hold on!! You think you may have laid that egg?! Wouldn't you have... noticed that?
[If giving birth were that unwitting of a process for humans, people definitely would have more babies!]
no subject
[Eva groaned in exasperation, running a hand down her face. Yes, yes she would have thought that even back then, she wasn't so out of it something like that could just happen without her knowledge!]
But how else could it have got here? What, a witch just magicked it into existence? I can't believe that.
no subject
[He frowns, really putting his brain cells together. If she really laid that egg, wouldn't that mean... but no, he's not going to ask her about what happened in the lead-up!! He'd like to make it out of here alive.]
...
Let me see the egg first of all.
no subject
[At least he's doing her this one favour and not asking about the period of time before that... she'd definitely kick him!
Either way, she beckoned Hijikata to follow her, carefully opening the door to the spare room. It was tidily furnished, and probably would have looked like a pleasant place to stay the night if it weren't for the traces of her creepy spiderwebs. Most of them had been swept away, but one corner, tucked away beside the bed, was largely untouched. Eva kept her distance, indicating the corner.
Where a Pokémon egg was sat cosily cushioned by the red webs.]
...See it? Just over there, on the other side of the bed.
no subject
[He retrieves the egg with care, then studies it with Eva.]
Honestly, it doesn't look like a spider egg to me. Aren't those round and kind of soft? This one looks more like a chicken egg. The shell is hard, too, see?
[He gently raps on it with his finger.]
It reminds me of the pokémon eggs - but don't nail me down on that!
no subject
[A slight grimace as he taps the surface- and he might be able to hear faint sounds coming from inside the egg in turn!
Besides, it was unlikely a giant chicken had snuck into her place too, wasn't it? As he mentioned Pokémon though, she raised an eyebrow.]
Wait, Pokémon lay eggs??
[Her own Pokémon was cat-like, and Hijikata's were pig-like and...well she wasn't sure how floating swords reproduced, but the other two seemed more like mammals to her!]
no subject
[He offers it to her. After all, now that the scare is more of less diffused, she may want to take care of it! (Part of him kind of hopes that it doesn't contain another cat pokémon. Eva's cat lady status is already cemented enough as it stands!)]
no subject
All the same, she took the egg into her arms.]
...It is seriously weird. And unless the Pokémon I already have laid it, I wonder how it could have gotten in here.
no subject
[Still, wouldn't the pokémon have had to find a mate first? But if Eva lets them roam freely, all bets are off on that front.]
If you want to ensure that it hatches, keep it warm.
no subject
[A heavy sigh.]
...Do you want a drink whilst you're here?
no subject
[Honestly, he's a little excited. If the pokémon hatches while he's here, that'll be special moment! He still remembers how his Honedge hatched... it was barely dagger-sized back then, but it grew up amazingly fast.]
no subject
Best not dwell on it.
For the time being, she made it a little nest out of blankets in the living area to warm up whilst her and Hijikata had the chance to chat over drinks and snacks. All the while, her two ghost kittens had apparently decided that trying to sneak up on and spook Hijikata before running away was a very fun game, much to Eva's amusement!
As it turned out, the egg did not need a great deal of encouragement at all! And it was only a couple of hours after they'd sat down that a much more prominent crack could be heard!]
Wait, what was that-?
no subject
It's the egg. Come on! Sometimes eggs need a little help.
[Who's fussing now?]
no subject
Right- come on.
[Another crack.
There were two on the egg's surface, now, right across one side- enough for a piece to flake off. Crack. Another little piece.]
You can do it little guy... out you come...
[She'd crouched down beside it, watching, waiting-
Crack crack- a yellow and black banded leg poking its way out and wriggling around, sending the egg rolling over onto it's side. At least it didn't look like a cat's paw!
Eva kept her hands out ready in case it ended up rolling onto the floor- and it was a good thing she did, as with another very determined wriggle the egg near split open, sending something that actually did look very much like a spider ungracefully tumbling into her hands.
...A little spider Pokémon that still had quite a few bits of eggshell stuck to it. That might need Hijikata's help, given her hands were full with trying not to drop a squirmy hatchling right now.]
H-hey, easy-...!
no subject
So it was a spider, after all.
[Still, this is a pokémon... right? Once the small creature is tidied up and turning around itself in Eva's hands, taking in its surroundings for the first time, he opens the Pokédex on his phone and searches for 'spider pokémon'.]
I'm pretty sure it's a Spinarak! It's a bug-slash-poison type.
no subject
[There's definitely an 'I told you so!' tone in her voice, one somewhat mellowed by her quiet, awed tone... she shifted to sit on the floor with it, letting it scamper around her hands and lap.]
... Spinarak, huh? I'm gonna have to train you up nice and strong, too. Especially after you spooked me earlier.
no subject
Looks like you have a web-spinning buddy now.
hope you don't mind a late one!
I may be able to offer some insight from a medical perspective, but whether or not that would be useful would depend on what you require the information for.
Late tags always welcome!

[...She definitely didn't want to mention the nature of said giant spider, but still.]
no subject
Have you seen any other signs of what it might be?
Eva stop being violent
[Just going to fixate on that paranoia-fuel for a bit after sending the sarcastic response, before heading back to the spare room to take another look for clues.]
I looked around by the bed near where I found it, and there's a basket of items under the bed that's also just showed up. Animal treats, a note... something that looks like a Pokéball.
If this is someone playing a prank I'm going to break their damn nose.
no subject
You said there's a... pokéball?
