Guess I'll find out! Been kind of thinking of opening my own publishing house. I can't be the only writer here.

Wow, really? Your own publishing house? What kinds of books do you wanna make? Are they all gonna be like yours?

Maybe? It's still on the drawing board. Could do a few different imprints for different ratings and stuff.

There're some shops in the mall I'd have to talk to. Hopefully get a better deal than with my old publisher!

Ha. I've been the head of logistics in my sect for decades. That includes a lot of the trade. So I'm not too worried!

Wow, really? Uh... what does a head of logistics actually do aside from being smart and talking to people in suits?

What doesn't he do, you mean? Order supplies, arrange repairs, deal with merchants, oversee and schedule any and all events, deal with everyone's paperwork when they don't feel like doing it, reports, negotiations...

That sounds like a lot of work... It's amazing someone can do it all! I'd definitely fall asleep!

And I've done that. Problem is, you wake up with his cheek in a puddle of ink and then you have to redo whatever you were trying to finish when you crashed.

Oh... yeah, that does sound pretty hard. Especially if you gotta use ink in bottles.

The kind of ink we use, you grind before you start. But it's the same end result.

Aww. ...I guess I don't really know much about ink, either. Does it come from rocks or something? I'm pretty sure it's not trees.

Actually, it is. Made from trees, I mean. I don't make my own, but I researched it once, and it's usually some sort of pine ash and resin, throw in some animal glue as a binder, press it into a stick.

Cultivators use cinnabar for some things too, but that's specialty work, and I wouldn't suggest it for regular folk because it's got mercury in it.

Wah, really? That's so cool! But wait, paper's made of trees too, so then it and ink are the same thing, kinda, right? I guess that's why you can recycle paper that you already used!

I guess? Can't say if commercial inks are made the same way, but who knows!

Commercial inks where I was first from where too, so it's probably the same. Especially printer inks and all that. Makes them last longer.

Really? Huh... I don't know much about how ink is made, but I didn't think it was from future-type machines. Wait, I guess everything is future-type machines to someone.

I mean, aren't most chemical things made that way? They sure aren't hand made, that's for sure.

Huh, that's true. I'm thinking the "zap from a machine and now they turned nutrient blocks into food" thing.

Ah, yeah. I was thinking more made in big vats at a factory.

That makes sense, it's like that at home too. I think, I've never actually been to an ink factory either. I wonder if it's exciting.

Bet it'd smell pretty strong. I'd rather tour a candy factory, myself.
