Hi, everyone! I wanna announce something that's happening in a week and some! You might've seen the posters around town already, but guess what? New Year's is coming up, and we're working hard to bring you a show that'll make you all 「Happy Around!」

The New Year's Party Live, presented by the Music Club!

Come to the Sunwaning Theatre in hall B at 7 for food and party games, and starting from 9 to midnight, we're gonna be doing musical performances on the stage too, up until midnight! It's gonna be so much fun! You're definitely gonna want to be there!

Oh! While I'm here, what's your favourite thing about New Year's? You never know! Maybe we'll make it part of the show!

(Following up from here! The event will have a log going up a few days before New Year's forward-dated to that night. Building on what worked and didn't work in Rinku's autumnal equinox live, Music Club members will be able to add their own performances to a TL about the performances, which caps off with a full-club song, and then everyone can tag the dinner and party. If your character is part of the Music Club and hasn't signed up yet, they can do so here or we can handwave it and they can just add a performance on the log with the others!)

Ooh, do you think we could have custom fireworks made for the performances?

Wow, that'd be great! I don't know how to get those, Yoi-chan isn't here anymore... But maybe someone else makes them! We do have those magic sparklers, though.

If I can find an otamatone, we can surely find fireworks!

[roundandaround]

Yeah, yeah! What else? Do we need confetti? A disco ball? A disco ball that breaks open and is full of confetti?

The latter would work... like it can break open when it hits midnight?

Yeah! Yeah, yeah! And then as everyone's clearing out at the end of the night, we could start up the fireworks show outside!

That'd be perfect!

We'll have to come up with a bunch of different firework designs--

I just realized. What year is it going to be...?

Oh, yeah... I know it's gonna be 17 years since the Tragedy of Greed, but no one's gonna want to count up from that, it's way too depressing.

Also you can't make cool glasses with just a one and seven.

Can we maybe just make it say "year"?

I guess we could... but it wouldn't feel as special.

Aww. So we gotta do something that's special for this new year specifically, huh? What else could we do to mark it?

[starwill]

Exactly. Each year is special, after all! But hmm. . . maybe we could use animals?

[roundandaround]

What kind? Something that lives in the Winter Segment, like an aurora bear?

[starwill]

Not sure... I think I might research on how they count the years first and figure something out from there?

Oh, that makes sense! It's their world, after all, so it's their year before anything.

[starwill]

Yeah. I'm now pretty curious at least...

Hm... what'd we do last year for New Year's, anyway? I remember there was that big fireworks show, but we have that covered thanks to Kantera-san's friend. And there was tons of free food! Oh, right, I gotta keep working with the theatre staff to see what all we should have at the dinner. Do you have ideas?

[starwill]

I wasn't here during last New Year's... but besides that, food and a concert... maybe New Year fortunes?

[roundandaround]

Oh, that'd be fun! Like they have at shrines back home! I dunno how accurate they'd be, but if it's just for fun it's okay. Maybe I'll have really good luck again!

[starwill]

I've never actually been to a shrine, I've just heard about this sort thing before.

[roundandaround]

Yeah, I wonder why we don't have the same thing here? They probably do in Sunwaning someplace, I should ask.

[starwill]

Maybe it's just not common...? I wouldn't expect every world to celebrate New Year's in the same way.

[roundandaround]

That's true, not even every country does. But there's Earth stuff here already, both that we brought and that was already here. Like the calendar used to be different, there were all different months, but they said in school once that they imported another world's calendar later on.

[You remember this but not what year it is, Rinku?]

[starwill]

. . . huh.

I wonder why they did that. To make it easier for people from other worlds?

[roundandaround]

I dunno. Maybe because the world was so different now, it didn't feel like they should be the same either? Or maybe they lost all their old calendars.

[starwill]

... Now I kind of want to find out.

Wow, thanks, Kantera-san! That's really nice of you! I'll call him! I guess fireworks are a popular New Year's thing, huh?

They are quite nice. I'm also fond of the traditional first shrine visit of the new year, but I've no idea how you would work that into a concert.

I guess not, huh? Though they are doing something that's kinda like New Year's wishes, right? Just with a box instead, and also setting stuff you don't like on fire.

Ah, yes, I saw that. I'm uncertain what I would want to burn, myself. Even the painful things, I don't know if I want to just forget?

[roundandaround]

Huh... I never thought about it like that. I was just thinking maybe it would mean the same thing wouldn't happen next year, since they also said "leave in the past." But they did say "forget," so I guess forgetting means forgetting, huh?

Perhaps both? Certainly, there are plenty of things I would rather not repeat.

Yeah. I love Ellipsa a lot, but this year there was a lot of stuff that really scared me, and it sounded like there was a lot more I didn't even know about.

Indeed. A great deal happened, and a good portion of those things I was useless to do anything about.

I know that feeling too, Kantera-san... But I'm sure it'll be better this year! We're definitely gonna be able to help if something goes wrong!

I hope so. I know that we've both been working hard to support our loved ones.

I hope nothing goes really scary like the stuff that I started hearing about, though.

How bad was what you heard?

Uh... I know for a while Eve-san was having trouble with her feelings and MK-san couldn't touch anyone. Even just pushing me out of the way when some guy shot at us made him freeze up and get scared. And there were a bunch of incidents with cursed stuff last year. That's kinda why I started trying to investigate it, even if I just ended up causing an incident too. And then what happened at the end of last August. And just before that, when we got mind controlled by the Nightshade...

All of that was bad. But it has been resolved, and MK and Eve are doing well. Not to say that I would wish what happened onto anyone, but we were able to recover.

[roundandaround]

Yeah... And maybe nothing else like that will happen again! We're all way stronger than we were last year, after all, right? I think so, anyway.

I at least am considerably better versed in seasonal powers than I was. So that is something.

And if we're more prepared, then they're not gonna take us by surprise, right?
