Probably 'cause this is another dimension. That's how the whole world thing works. There's tons of things from everyone's worlds that Ellipsa hadn't heard of 'til we got here! It's always really exciting! Except the scary and depressing parts, some worlds really suck.

Even in another dimension, it's surprising.

Really? Have you been to other worlds before?

None like this one.

This one's really exciting! There's all kinds of stuff here. But it's also pretty dangerous, so it's good if you know how to fight and quest and stuff. Mostly it's safe in the city, but recently a lot of things went wrong at once where it wasn't, and we're kinda rebuilding.

I noticed the rebuilding.

Who was the enemy?

[roundandaround]

Lots of different people. There's this group some people call "the" people, 'cause their founder's the Pierrot, who caused the Tragedy of Greed, and they have people like the Scientist and the Knight and stuff. One of them was sending spies to find where all our missions were and set traps and stuff. So we were trying to stop that, and then someone caused a power outage where the lights wouldn't come on for days even with backups. Then they blocked out the sky with these magic rods, which I dunno if that was the Scientist or the Wizard or what. And then while everyone was panicking, the Doctor, another one of those guys who's been in jail for a year and some in a magic coma, his followers, the Nightshade, tried to break him out. And that broke everyone else out of prison, and people were fighting in the streets and stuff. Plus vampires showed up, I dunno if they're related to any of those groups or people or if they were just kinda attacking people 'cause they were hungry.

[ The Chief listens to all that, memorizing names, sequencing events. Only one thing throws him a little. ]

Vampires.

[ Just … checking to ensure he heard that right. ]

Uh-huh. I didn't know we had them either, but I guess they must've been hiding.

That makes me wonder what else is hiding.

[roundandaround]

Yeah, I thought it was mostly humans and fairies in Nightwake City, plus all of us who are sometimes other things. But there's mermaids and sirens in the Great Ocean Lake, and dragons, those mostly live in the old castle down south, and some people say there used to be elves someplace.

All of these are friendlies?

[roundandaround]

Usually. Like, there's sometimes people who aren't good, like gangs and stuff, but those are any species. I mean, except that one gang that only likes humans, obviously those guys are all human.

Does that gang have a name?

[roundandaround]

I dunno, no one ever told me it. My sister would know, she knows everything. But I do know the four biggest gangs in town are named after card suits! And they all don't like each other!

Uh... were those the ancient guys who were obsessed with war and fought naked? Or maybe that was the other ancient guys who fought naked. I think the war thing's right, though.
