[The camera turns on and Flynn is staring at someone off camera, frowning slightly before he looks back at the recording device. He opens his mouth to speak, then shuts it, and then finally he relaxes. He gives the camera a smile and a nod of acknowledgement]

I was told that this device can record me and put my words onto a network.

[Flynn gives a small wave.]

Consider this a practice round for me. I'm Flynn Scifo, and I hope to get along with everyone.

[He looks back over to whoever is off camera and cocks his head to the side.]

Is that good?

[The blond looks back at the camera and gives a sheepish grin.]

[Well at least there's not something world ending happening at the moment. That's good. Hopefully something like that never happens. He thinks on the information.]

Community building isn't bad. But, I can't say that I'd want to see monsters attack the city.

Thank you for the information. I know I just arrived, but I don't want things to blindside me. I'm already blindsided enough.

Entirely reasonable. That said, being blindsided here has been a constant experience for me at least, so I would suggest keeping your mind open to what possibilities might arise when individuals from multiple universes congregate like this.

[He pauses and thinks about it for a moment.]

It just means being careful not to tread on toes for the moment. I'm sure things will feel a little better in no time. Though, if you have some advice in that area I would appreciate it.

[Gods, does he have advice beyond what he's already said? Hard to say, frankly. But...]

Keep your wits about you. Know who your allies are. Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake. That sort of thing.

I'd also suggest familiarizing yourself with your phone's various functions as quickly as possible, but it seems you're already working on that.

[It's amusing to hear it come from someone else rather than a superior when talking about fighting.]

Do you spar? It sounds like you might have some experience with combat.

So it's called a phone? I was just calling it a device.

I just play a lot of chess, really.

Yes, it's a phone. Originally, at least on my world, they were a means of communicating verbally across great distances, but we later added text and video. The phones here are actually more advanced than what I'm used to, mostly. It's not impossible to pick up, though.

Do you still play it here? Is it hard to learn?

[He pauses to look at the little "phone" and he taps the small charm and nods as he sighs.]

I guess I'll have to get used to it. I'm sure it won't be too bad.

[Huh.]

I've been rather more preoccupied with my bakery, but yes, I still play it. It isn't especially difficult to learn, but it is hard to master.

You'll manage, I'm sure.

You run a bakery? I'll have to visit it sometime.

[He puts a pin in the chess conversation for now.]

I'm sure that Yuri will help me manage things starting out.

[Ah. Well, not that he wasn't already peeking at what else was happening on this post, but.]

Were you planning to join up with BVE? We might see more of each other then.

[He chuckles and shakes his head.]

I don't know if he'll let me join, he wouldn't back home.

[However, it wasn't exactly like he could have joined in the right way anyway. He needed to stay affiliated with the Empire in order to make sure that someone didn't take over and do something like the former Commandant had done.]

[Weird thing to ban, and he's briefly puzzled. He doesn't know Yuri that well yet, but... huh.]

You may as well ask. I doubt it would hurt.

Well, I guess it might not matter here like it does back home.

[Commandant. But he doesn't need to throw the title around. This is a different world and it doesn't really matter here.

That kind of strikes him and makes his chest feel hollow. His hand comes up to touch the middle of his chest briefly.]

[... Hmm. Conflicting interests, then, he has to assume. Reasonable enough.]

Then by all means, run it past him.

Sure. The first thing I want to do is make sure he's doing okay. From what everyone says it sounds like it, but I want to check.

Trouble likes to find him, and I'm not sure that will stick to just our own world.

Definitely something you'll have to ask him, unfortunately. Most of my conversations with him have had to do with cooking.

Of course, I'll ask him as soon as I meet up with him.

Yuri is a really good cook.

What kinds of things do you have at your bakery?

[kingside]

The usual, really. Breads, cakes, tarts, brownies, cookies, quiche, that sort of thing. Most of our customers take their purchases home or wherever else with them, but we have seating available for anyone who can't wait.

Sounds good. I'll have to come try some of the items myself.

[He pauses.]

I don't think I got your name.
