[Video] un: runyu

[ A new face appears, but there are glimmers of fury in the slight narrow cant of dark eyes and the set of his lips. Still, Runyu inclines his head, just a little - lashing out without thought is something he won't do. Never again. ]

The powers of those who brought us all here must indeed be great. Even more so for their requirements to keep us complacent and healthy.

With that in mind, I have some healing ability. If any are in need that this requirement has not seen to, I offer myself to see about helping.

Feel free to call for me should you have such a need. I am Runyu. Speak, I will hear you.

I won't take that for granted.

[Shuanghua is a proud blade that shines brighter upon sensing Runyu's gaze. Almost like moonlight.]

I wouldn't be complete without him. [Xingchen walks into the kitchen to begin cooking.] This place is so...different...from everything I know.

Nor will we, my friend.

[ That brighter shine makes him smile warmer as the part of him that's loved guiding the night sky acknowledges and accepts that similarity. ]

Yes. I have occasionally explored the mortal world of my realm. It's different from here.

What is your mortal world like? Mine doesn't have buildings nearly this tall or strong. Even the largest village is smaller than this city.

[He cuts up ingredients and heats some water over the stove.]

Perhaps much like your own. I think there are a few places you might like there.

I'm sure. [He smiles and begins cooking some meat - since he is in the presence of a dragon!] I wish I could show you my Master's mountains.

[ So few bother to keep his own wishes in mind, that it doesn't occur to him Xingchen might be cooking more than he usually would. ]

Dream of them tonight. The Dream Beast can eat them and show us both tomorrow, if you want.

[He doesn't mind! Having company is better than being alone. Vegetables and meat are soon put on the table - along with fresh baked bread, tea and wine.]

I would like that! I can meditate before I sleep and dream about my time as a pupil.

[Xingchen smiles and adds:]

Dinner is ready.

[ Something to look forward to! Runyu admires the food his new friend has prepared and brought out for them to share and pours them both a cup of tea. ]

Then I will have him stay with you tonight. He has trouble with doors, though manages when he feels he is needed.

Thank you, my friend. It all smells wonderful.

[Xingchen blinks and smiles slowly at the offer. The Dream Beast can...sleep over? He knows just where the little one will be tucked in too.]

Thank you, Runyu. If he needs to get out, I'm easy to wake. I'll help him.

[He sits down at the table and sips on the tea.]

Good food can warm a person, I've found.

[ Somehow Runyu doubts either of his friends will mind this! ]

Good. Do not worry about waking me at night, I usually sleep a few hours at a time during the day.

[ And he's not talking about just tonight. It's an open ended offer.

Runyu also sips at his tea, enjoying the subtle flavors. ]

The food in the Heavens of my realm is always the same. Very little variety. It is one reason I would spend what time I could in the Mortal World.

[Hardly! Xingchen's bed is big enough for two and he loves the idea of snuggling with a cute Dream Beast.]

So you can watch over the stars?

[He smiles and adds:]

I may have to join you one night.

[If they get access to the roof, the sight would be spectacular.]

My cooking is plain, but there are plenty of spices in the market. If you choose some you like, I can incorporate them.

[ The Dream Beast likes to cuddle~ ]

Yes. I want to see if I know any of them.

[ He meets that smile. ]

[Xingchen does too. He sleeps better like that since most of his time on his Master's mountain, he had a bed buddy.]

I would be interested to know if you do.

[They will have hot tea and sit under a blanket to watch the stars.]

I learned about the constellations from my Master, but she can't compare with your knowledge.

I will be sure to tell you if I do. Even if I do not, I can show you those I know through other ways.

[ Runyu smiles and shakes his head a little. ]

The knowledge gifted by one's master is no small thing.

Other ways? [Xingchen perks up, curious. He crunches on some vegetables, eyes never leaving Runyu.]

Mm no, it's not. But I think she would like to learn from you too.

[ He hums and finally begins to pick out a couple things to nibble on. Then with a hint of mischief, gestures overhead to the ceiling - which darkens to the night sky filled with stars and constellations. ]

I would be glad to teach her.

[A carrot drops from his chopsticks and he stares, amazed, at what used to be his ceiling!]

Runyu! [Xingchen smiles at the bright stars.] Mm if only she was here.

[ He smothers a grin behind a hastily lifted sleeve. ]

Maybe she will come here.

[Xingchen hesitates and looks down at his food.]

It's...better if she doesn't. She doesn't wish to see me anymore.

[ That hesitation followed by that answer reverberates in his very soul. Enough that Runyu reaches out to rest a gentle hand on his new friend's arm. ]

You do not need to tell me what happened. But should you wish to share it, I will gladly listen.

I am only the second pupil to leave her mountain. Any pupil who does can never return. [Xingchen speaks gently, sadly to his new friend.] It's the price we pay for returning to the world.

[ Runyu's eyes close briefly, understanding echoing deep in his heart. ]

I understand.

[ Reopening his eyes to gaze gently at the mortal, he gives Xingchen's wrist a gentle squeeze. ]

It must have been just as hard for her for you to leave.

[There is...regret and some...hurt involved. Xingchen doesn't think poorly of his Master and he never will, but she was the closest thing he had to a mother.]

I know I did the right thing. I would have lived my life on that peak, wondering what good I could have done below otherwise.

[ Ah. Yes. Runyu can understand that need to act, opposite what others would feel should be done. ]

You have certainly improved my life here. I am glad to know you.

[His eyes widen and his cheeks turn pink.]

I am glad to know you too! And your little Dream Beast. You are always welcome in my apartment.
