001: Art Calendar, Video; un: @)-,--
Hello!
[There's a bit of fumbling as Mary tries to balance her device on the desk in her room, glancing behind her to make sure nothing she was trying to hide appeared in the frame. All clear, good!
Don't mind the excitable small child, Ellipsa!]
So that idol said that we should all make calendars for next year, and I wanna try and make one too! I think we should draw something and then I can make a calendar with everyone's art. Who wants to join in? I'll start-
[She reaches off to one side before holding up her sketchbook to show a brightly coloured crayon drawing of different flowers in red, blue and yellow.]
...
Something like that!
Who else is making calendars anyway? I want to hear all about them.

( she's so cute!! Lioriley is beaming. )
I am making a water themed calendar myself - with all manner of sea creatures and plenty of pictures of the beach and lakes about.

I'll support your calendar. Can I call dibs on May?
[He wants to paint a cute Mayorin for his birth month!! It'll definitely make everyone who buys the calendar happy!]

[Oohhh, this person's pretty! Don't mind her staring curiously for a couple of moments before nodding, getting a bright smile of her own. This person was willing to join in on her idea, too!]
Yay, thank you! I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of art you make~
There's lots of different sea creatures and pretty views by the beach. I think there's more lakes and stuff outside the city but I've not gone out that far yet.

[She's happy to hear from him! And is having a curious little peak at the background of his video.]

I will be sure it suits your standards, my friend. ( genuinely. )
There are, but they can be quite dangerous. You would do well to venture with someone alongside you, should you ever wish to visit. ( a beat. ) I could always volunteer myself. My name is Lioriley.

Hello! That sounds like an amazing idea and your art is really cute! My name is Madoka Kaname, please just call me Madoka and I'd love to join if you'll have me--
[She grabs a pink sketchbook from a very tall, rainbow and other colored pile of sketchbooks, flips through some pages and shows her own art of her magical girl form to the screen.]
Here's an example of my style, but I'll draw anything. Oh ummm, I'll probably make at least one that's full of kitten art and maybe some others too.
[Drawing the quintet doing all sorts of things in Ellipsa for one, for sure.]

[He's on break from his patrol in Frostreign of all places, sitting on a bench with his Shinsengumi coat worn over his police uniform. Besides the snowy branches behind him, some stream from his paper cup coffee rises in front of the camera.]

[She's excited, but knows that good art takes time, so she's going to have to wait. Still, Mary is very quickly distracted by the offer made next, looking positively delighted at the idea of having someone to venture out with her.]
Really, you'd come with me? I want to! I want see all the interesting things outside the city too!
My name's Mary. It's nice to meet you Lioriley.
Spoilers ahoy - Hiji how do you manage to unlock spoilers even in the fluff threads
Oh- wait, that's right, normal humans had birthdays, didn't they? But what would that be for her? She wasn't sure exactly what day her Father finished painting her, so that wouldn't do.
She had to think of something quickly-...maybe, maybe the date she first arrived in this world. That was her first time coming into a 'real' world, right? So that'd do!]
Oh, um- October 14th-
[Quick, change the subject!]
Hey, it looks really really cold where you are, where are you?
Cuties <3
Thank you! And yay, I'd love you to join! My name's Mary, it's nice to meet you, Madoka.
[She leant in close when Madoka got out her sketchbook, nodding excitedly.]
That's a really cute drawing too, you're good at this...!
no subject
Thank you- Oh, you're a painter, really? What kind of things do you paint? My Father's a painter, too, and he painted lots and lots of different things.
I've not heard of art made digitally, though- um, is that art made on a machine? Can machines really do that??
[This is a whole new world of art...!]

I can participate with something.
[He does have some simple sketches of various animals he shows on the video. And one with a beautiful black-haired woman. It's a very realistic style, even if by no means perfect. But you can tell what the pictures are about.]
I might need some ideas on what to draw, depending on the month I get.
no subject
Yay, thank you! Your drawings are good- ohh, who is she?? She's really pretty.
[That one in particular reminded her a little of The Lady in Red.]
And do you have any months you like best?
He just asks the right (wrong?) questions without realising!
Frostreign, the wintermost district. I'm working here today.
[She probably sticks to the city centre rather than travelling around alone, he assumes, but it seems like she knows what snow is! Maybe they get cold winters where she's from, too.]
Do you want to draw the calendar picture for October, then?
no subject
[Jean has no biases towards Mikasa, no never.]
Probably February or July. April is a good candidate, too.
It's his hidden talent!
You've gotta make a snow angel whilst you're there, those are the rules.
[Priorities!]
And sure, I'll do October if no one else wants to, I don't mind! There's fun things in all the different months to draw- oh, if it's October I could try and draw something spooky.
no subject
Do you have three birthdays??
[Wait, no, that wouldn't make sense-]
I mean- why do you like those months best? They can't all be your birthday.
no subject
[He definitely never does anything childish!! He's a respectable grown-up!]
Will you draw the candles, too? You know, maybe next October will be easier for you if you've mastered fire resistance by then.
no subject
no subject
April's my birthday. February is my wife's and at the end of July we got married.
no subject
It's - well, it's art I make digitally in a program made for people to draw in. So machines can if I make them.
no subject
[A nervous little frown, before she quickly turned the question back on Lioriley.]
What Season are you? What's your magic like? Have you been here for a long time?
no subject
Wait, you mean grown-ups can't just do fun things like make snow angels whenever they want?? I thought the whole point of growing up was that you had the freedom to do all that stuff all the time!
[Has she been lied to??]
Draw the candles...I could do. I hadn't thought about it. Fire shouldn't be brought near artwork but I suppose you can still make artwork of fire.
no subject
[Digital art. A program on a machine that can paint the way a person can- well, no, it was a person using a machine to paint instead of a canvas. It was a difficult concept to get her head around.]
So it's...um, like a canvas but on a machine.
no subject
Did you two wear pretty clothes and have lots of flowers when you got married? I want to see a real wedding someday.
no subject
[Could he paint the picture of adulthood any bleaker?!]
You take your art quite seriously, hm?
[For such a young girl, she's already quite dedicated to the safety measures around artworks!]
no subject
[What a bleak world adults must live in, if they couldn’t even play without someone telling them off??
Still, the question made her falter, and she gave a quick nod. Had she said too much? Ib was always considerate of the artwork in the Fabricated World right up until the end…]
Of course! …My Father’s a painter, so I know about things like that. People who’d damage artwork like that are meanest of all.
[She did think that maybe it was obvious to not bring fire around paintings, but that didn’t stop Garry waving his lighter around in a blackout at the gallery!]
What do your parents do, Hijikata?
no subject
His smile deepens at her earnestly protective attitude towards art. She's a good kid, really. But then she asks about his parents... oh dear. Hopefully his answer won't upset her. He'll try to say it gently!]
My parents aren't alive anymore. But that's alright; I'm old enough to look after myself.
[He wasn't old enough when they died, that's for sure. He never even got to meet his father, and his mother passed away when he was 6. If not for his oldest brother, no one would have taken care of him - not emotionally, in any case.]
no subject
[ He tries to explain, but...it's fairly new to him, too. ]
Exactly that. It's more portable so I can draw when I'm out and inspiration strikes.
tw child death mention
[Blink- blink- Mary didn't entirely have her head around the concept of death in its entirety. She'd died, yes, and it was painful and awful and scary, but she wasn't human. A human death was a little more abstract.
All the same, she understood enough to know that meant he didn't have parents anymore, and a small frown came into her face.]
...That must be lonely. Are you okay?
no subject
Mm, I wonder what Father would think of that. I think art on a machine would be more difficult to hurt than a sculpture or a canvas, but does it feel really different to work on?
...I wanna see some of your digital art too. I want to know what it's like.
no subject
[He's just going to gloss over all the ways in which they aren't!]
Here on Ellipsa, I live with my student, and I have a whole bunch of friends, so I don't get lonely at all.
[He can say that truthfully. He really is a lucky man, when he stops to think about it.]
no subject
I don't really have any other siblings. And Klee and I aren't the same blood, but our mothers are friends [ It feels weird to call his master 'mother' but he thinks that will make the most sense, so here he is ] so she became like a sister to me. I watch over her at home anytime that I can. She's a good girl, has a lot of energy, too. She is pretty close to your age, from what I can tell.
It certainly isn't as fragile as a canvas can be, but it does feel different to work on, too. I'd be glad to show you, though. A friend of mine got it for me to draw on, and it'd be a shame if I didn't share.
no subject
That's good. It's horrid being all alone, so I'm glad you have lots of friends.
...I want to make lots of friends in this world too!
[As she spoke, she picked up her phone and sat back down on her bed with it, still happily chatting away.
In the background, three creepy-cute blue dolls were sat by the pillow- a large one and two smaller ones.
...Was that large one staring at the camera? It had to just be the angle of the shot...right?]
no subject
[Mary had always wanted a girl her age to be friends with- but also, she imagined he would be lonely if his sister wasn't with him.]
Mm, I'll have to come see it sometime then!
[...
Wait a second, she'd forgotten something important.]
Oh, my name's Mary. What's your name?
no subject
[He wishes her that, all the more since it seems like she has experience with loneliness, which a girl this young really shouldn't have. Does her painter father not spend enough time with her back home?
His encouraging smile gradually thins out as he notices that big blue doll staring at him. Well, of course it's not really staring... right?]
Ah... those dolls, did they come with you from home?
[Whoever gave them to her has awful taste!! They look creepy! But he's got to be polite. Children's toys are their friends, after all.]
no subject
Yeah. I actually have some pictures still from the wedding. It wasn't a "traditional" church wedding, but it was a really beautiful ceremony.
no subject
[Cuter and all the more excitable!! She'd not heard there were other sorts of weddings too...!]
no subject
[There was still a doubt in the back of her mind, of course. If anyone found out the truth about her, then...
Well, she couldn't think about that right now.]
Yes, they're my friends...there's more of them back home but only these three came with me. Back home there's enough to fill an entire room!
[Isn't that nice!]
no subject
Why, that's... that wonderful.
[That doll just seems to keep staring at him... luckily, the ringing of a belltower in the vicinity saves him from the awkwardness of wanting to get away from it.]
Ah, sorry Mary, but I've got to get back to work over here.
[He gets up from his bench, suddenly feeling the cold creep into his bones (no, it's not fear; it's the cold!!).]
You can count me in for the calendar. I'll deliver my paining to you before the end of the year!
no subject
Please do. I'm Albedo.
no subject
She seemed to take his words at face value, though, giving a quick nod.]
Don't work too hard! You gotta have energy left to paint with later!
[She'll let him go for now, either way. He clearly had work to be doing.]
no subject
Don't worry, I've got a lot of energy!
[That much is true... and you know what, maybe he will make a snow angel! The snow in this park looks delightfully fluffy, and it'd distract him from the lingering mental image of that creepy doll.]
