Memories of Home [Text | UN: twotails]

[Instead of using the network to introduce himself, Tails decides to instead pose a question to the network. It would be good for him to get an idea of how many different people have been brought here, like him.

Plus, he's always insatiably curious, so...]

What's your universe like? What do you think makes it unique and special? And what do you like most about it?

[He almost sends it just like that - but realizes that it would probably be better if he himself gives an answer. It's only fair, after all.]

I wouldn't say my world is too terribly special, but it's a planet called Earth with lots of humans, and also those of us who've helped save the world a few times. We're not human, but we can talk like them! The person threatening the world is human, though. Builds a lot of crazy mad genius gadgetry and machinery to take us on. But I think he's finally mellowed out a little.

As for what I like most about it... well, everything! The forests, mountains, ruins, cities... it's so much fun to just soar over the landscape and take in what the world has to show. It reminds me what we have to protect, if it comes under attack again.

Sixteen??

[Bro first Amy's eighteen and now this? It's not every day that Sonic feels like he's been left behind. First time for everything though, right?]

I think the only thing that isn't blowing my mind is the whole weird place grabbing people from different universes thing? Since that's kinda what's going on here, too.

Yeah. Everyone's quite a bit older over there. Somehow Eggman's mustache hasn't greyed out yet.

[He pauses for a moment.]

Well, the Academy gave out letters to people inviting them to attend. It was more... I guess voluntary than this place. And since Eggman had gone to attend, we couldn't leave him to his own devices. But oddly enough, throughout those eight years he kind of... changed.

I'm surprised it's not loaded with grey hair now, with as much as I get on his nerves.

[Anyway, not important. Sonic waves his hand as if to say 'aaaaand moving on']

I-- okay, wait. So he just went back to school and it mellowed him out? College doesn't usually take eight years, does it? Was one evil doctorate not good enough?

I'm oversimplifying it, but he still definitely tried things. But they got... well. Less and less 'Eggman'. Less 'world-threatening' and more 'minor annoyance'. Like cupid-bots. Which sent the school into a love-ridden frenzy, but it's not like anything got destroyed, you know?

Well, the Academy only lasted six or seven of those years - and it taught all levels. Eggman was actually a teacher, believe it or not. Teaching political science, and then demolitions.

And then he found a girlfriend and got married.

And then the school got destroyed.

Those two things might or might not be related.

[He's now going to wait for Sonic's inevitable brain-break. Sorry, Sonic.]

[Of course he's baffled by... everything. Cupid-bots? Lame. Eggman teaching and not actively trying to take over the world? Absolutely absurd. But kinda cool?

Eggman finding someone who can not only apparently tolerate him, but married him? ON PURPOSE?

Hell just froze over, the world's coming to an end. Dogs and cats, living together, mass hysteria.

Sonic says nothing, far too preoccupied by trying to make all of this make sense in his head. He just stands there, staring at his hands for a long moment, before finally managing a shaky, barely audible;]

[It's not a question directed at Tails really, just to the universe in general. How can this be, universe??]

[He reaches over and pats Sonic on the shoulder, giving him what's hopefully a reassuring smile.]

Don't think about it too hard. Seriously. If you consider the possibilities, there are many Eggmans around the multiverse, in each of our universes, and it's bound to happen.

Heck, there's probably one that's somehow even more evil than any of the ones we've known. That used the Time Stones to erase your existence or something. But I think even if that had happened me and the others would find a way to undo it.

Wait. Waitwaitwaitwaitwait. Back up. Before we tackle anything else, I need to know; Who is Mrs. Eggman!?

[He will absolutely come back to everything else but LOOK MAN PRIORITIES!]

[He pauses... and decides to just give it to him straight.]

She was known as Madame Flurrie. Back in her world she was a ghost, I think? But Smash Academy had these jewelry pieces that anyone could use to attain a humanoid form.

And as far as I could tell, she was very good at keeping him in check most of the time.

...A ghost.

[well. That's weird, but not the hardest thing he's had to accept today, soooo]

But she kept him in line? Like, this is weird, but this is great news! If one Eggman can learn to chill, maybe there's still hope for mine!

[Okay! His mood seems to be a little better, he can take this info back home. Whenever he gets to, anyway.]

Anyway, back to the top! Didn't you say Marine was here? I haven't seen her in ages!

Oh yeah. She's very nice until you make her mad. Then she's a force to be reckoned with.

[He nods at Sonic's last question.]

She came in with me. We both were at the Academy. She and I are... well... [He can't hide the small blush.] She's my girlfriend.

...Oh no, that's kind of adorable. My little bro has a girlfriend! ...Is this what old people mean when they say kids grow up too fast!?

[He has so many mixed feelings, Tails. Not bad ones! Maybe he wouldn't be so shocked about it if he wasn't eternally single but y'know.]

She isn't even my first. [He laughs. But then for a moment, his expression falters momentarily, before jumping right back to smiles.] She was the one that was with me when the school fell, though. We got lucky and managed to arrive at the same time. She's sleeping in the apartment right now - otherwise she'd probably be asking you a million questions.

Okay, okay, coming down from that whopper. Sonic runs his fingers through his quills to just smoooooth those back down aaaand we're good.]

This school sounds absolutely bonkers. Anyway, I'm definitely gonna have to catch up with her too... but maybe after I've had some time to digest the rest of this. This is kind of a lot, bro.

[He nods.]

Oh, it is. I could tell you so many stories. But I'll save those until later.

[He's dropped most of the biggest 'what the hell' moments already.]

Sorry, I didn't mean to overwhelm you like that. [He gives a sheepish smile.] But that's just kinda how it's been. Personally, I'm interested in hearing what's been happening in your neck of the multiverse. I have some stories of my own from everything before the Academy that should be a little less, uh... crazy.

[It's fine, he's over it... Well, he isn't, but he can fake it! He waves a hand dismissively, no biggie]

It's fine, I'm used to life coming at me fast. Keeps me on my toes! As for back home... I dunno man, it's pretty constant there, too. I'll have to narrow it down to my greatest hits.

You don't happen to know anything about a Station Square or Space Colony ARK, do you?

[He figures he can at least start with the last memories from his homeworld.]

The latter of which being where Shadow came from in my world.

Oh, yeah! I remember all that like it was yesterday! Loads of stuff's happened since then! Metal threw a tantrum, there were aliens, more aliens, a big war, Eggman lost his memory and then got it back, there was a platypus, Mecha and I are buds now...

[He's just listing a bunch of stuff off on his fingers, probably in no particular order. It's a lot, bro]

[He nods along as Sonic lists things off.]

Sounds normal, sounds normal... wait, hold up. You and Mecha are buds? Like, you and Mecha Sonic?

[Hold up, what the fluff!?]

[Ooooh tails its a whole thing]

Oh, yeah! Remember the Deathegg? Well-- the first one, anyway. It crash landed on an island and now a bunch of abandoned badniks live there. Mecha was one of 'em. They were just chillin', real friendly guys!

I mean, Mecha and I beefed a bit at first, but we worked it out.

[He scratches his head a little in confusion, but, well, he can't say he knew Mecha. There had to have been a personality coded into him, since Metal was the first, and Silver was just a straight-up Sonic robot...

... then he remembers that this is technically a parallel universe kind of situation anyway, and thus he can't easily apply logic to it.]

Well, at least there's that, then. I mean, even Eggman's robots have come around before. Like Gamma. And Omega... kind of. So I guess it's not out of the question that Mecha could change.

Oh yeah, I've seen it happen a lot. Scrapnik Island's loaded with bots like that.

...Which makes me wonder why Eggman keeps programming robots with personalities so complex that they end up realizing that he sucks and decide to do their own thing or even turn on him? But I don't know enough about robotics or programming to even begin to explain it, so.

[Shrug! He doesn't know why it happens the way it happens, but it does, so he's not going to complain.]
