If this adventure with chain mail has taught me anything, 'tis that many of us here are having our first exposure to the internet, with all its amusements and pitfalls included. Thus, I thought it might be nice to introduce another 'getting to know each other' game that some of us might not know yet. This one won't involve pictures or ratings of attractiveness, not to worry.

This game is called 'two truths and a lie'. The premise is simple. You list three statements about yourself, two true and one false. Ideally they should all be similar levels of unbelievable. Then, other people respond to you to guess which one is the lie. We all learn a little about each other and have a bit of fun.

[ Reading that produces a very...complicated feeling in Nen's chest. If they had to describe it, it would be unpleasant. Uncomfortable. Tight, but not suffocating. Nen doesn't want to think about what it is that emotion is and shuts it down, pushing it as far away from themself as they can.

It takes a few minutes before they can reply. ]

That's what they wanted to do with you? Toy with you?

No. They wanted me to kill things. People.

Toying with me was how they went about getting it.

Why would they do that? Why would they want anyone to kill someone?

I don't know. Like I said, I don't remember everything.
Just little bits and pieces.

But I do know that even if they had good intentions, there's no excuse for imprisoning and using us like that.

[ Nen doesn't know what else to say at this point. If they think too much, that feeling will come back. If they say too much, it'll sound like what they went through. ]

It's fine. It's in the past. All I can do now is move on. [ And not let it happen again, hence why the research center frightens her. Letting people know her strengths and weaknesses, it's opening a box she can't close. Maybe if she knew how they managed to get her to massacre that town, but she doesn't. ]

Aren't you upset?

Of course I'm upset, but if I let what happened influence everything about my life now then I might as well still be under their control.

I mean I understood the words
I just don't know how you do it.

Oh. Well... some days are better than others, I guess.
And I'm really lucky that I have people around me who I can trust enough to lean on when I'm not doing so well. [ And to kill her if and when it comes to that, assuming she can even die which is very much an open question. ]

I just do my best. That's all any of us can do, right?
Find big and little things that make us happy.

I wish you'd been a part of my world.

[ Even if that might mean that by now, Saya would be long-dead, succumbed to the repeating time loops that seem to undo everything they touch. ]

I want to be like that.

[ Maybe if they'd thought like Saya, things would have turned out different. Maybe they could have escaped the research tower and stopped the time loops. ]

[ NEN SELF BLAME IS NOT THE WAY said Saya with the biggest possible dose of hypocrisy ]

Well... maybe we could spend some time together. I could try and help show you how I see things. And then you'd also see that it's not always easy, that's important too.

I know! I've been thinking of going to some karaoke places in the next day or so. Have you ever done that?

No, I've never heard of that before. What is "karaoke"? Is it food?

It's a place where people go to have fun and sing songs.
A machine plays music and shows you the words, and you sing along.

There's food and drinks in these places too. It's like both a party and a game.

[ Oh... That sounds...fun? Like something Yuuto would enjoy. And it's something they've never tried before, which is more than enough encouragement to pull Nen in. They like anything new. ]

I've never sung before though. Is that okay?

[sangreine]

Of course! It's more about having fun than about being a great singer. [ Saya herself is an opera singer but she could care less about anyone being a brilliant musician. This is about the experience! ]

[ Please show Nen opera, please do this. They would love to listen to her sing opera???? ]

Then yes! I want to try karaoke.

Good! I'll find a place and send you a text tomorrow or the next day, does that work?

Yes! I have to go grocery shopping and watch the stars but I will come for sure.
