If this adventure with chain mail has taught me anything, 'tis that many of us here are having our first exposure to the internet, with all its amusements and pitfalls included. Thus, I thought it might be nice to introduce another 'getting to know each other' game that some of us might not know yet. This one won't involve pictures or ratings of attractiveness, not to worry.

This game is called 'two truths and a lie'. The premise is simple. You list three statements about yourself, two true and one false. Ideally they should all be similar levels of unbelievable. Then, other people respond to you to guess which one is the lie. We all learn a little about each other and have a bit of fun.

"The Big Bird is always watching the creatures of the forest, there's no freedom."
"The Long Bird's scale isn't fair at all."
"The Small Bird's punishment is so scary."

Together, the three birds formed the pillars of the City - surveillance, judgment, and retribution. Those things which allow human society to flourish.
And through them, fewer and fewer visitors came, and more and more were deemed potential threats.

The only beast in the forest was their own rule. It tore their home to shreds, and left the City in its stead.

[ That's... a very interesting idea of what makes a society flourish. She won't retort though. She wants to hear the story. ]

Do the birds regret becoming the beast?

Who can say?
Two remain a monster to this day.
One was torn away and left to die, undoubtedly replaced within the hour.

Ask the corpse all you will, but the bird cannot answer. Only the life that has feasted and grown from it can respond.

[ Well that was... cryptic. ]

And it is no longer the bird, is it?

Rather than an answer, a question in turn:

When name, body and purpose are stripped from a being, can what remains truly be called the original?

No. What remains is a haunting. A demon.

Oh? How astute. Then there's no need for me to explain, is there?

I don't know if need factors into this. You've told what you are willing to tell for now.
