If this adventure with chain mail has taught me anything, 'tis that many of us here are having our first exposure to the internet, with all its amusements and pitfalls included. Thus, I thought it might be nice to introduce another 'getting to know each other' game that some of us might not know yet. This one won't involve pictures or ratings of attractiveness, not to worry.

This game is called 'two truths and a lie'. The premise is simple. You list three statements about yourself, two true and one false. Ideally they should all be similar levels of unbelievable. Then, other people respond to you to guess which one is the lie. We all learn a little about each other and have a bit of fun.

Oryou... is Oryou. Oryou is immune to bullets, breathes fire and poison, and can heal people. Oryou's husband is a human named Ryouma, who is also here. Oryou's favorite food is frogs.

Are those the kinds of things you wanted to know?

[ She nods. ]

I think so. I'm just curious.

We call demons that have manifested in such a form that facilitates cooperation with humans "eidolons." But I have to say, I have never heard of a marriage between human and eidolon before.

Ryouma is special. [Fondly.] Oryou wouldn't get married to just any human.

[nihilmancy]

How did you meet him?

[kerontribution]

Oryou was trapped by a spear on a mountain and Ryouma freed her without her even having to ask him to.

[She'd been fully prepared to trick him into it, but he just went ahead and pulled it out without asking any questions.]

[nihilmancy]

[ That really does sound like some kind of fairy tale... she's quite different from most of the demons she's known. ]

That... is an interesting situation. He sounds like a very kind person.

[ She would not have been so unthinkingly kind. ]

He is. He'd be hopeless without Oryou.

[Despite that, she sounds fond when she says it.]

[nihilmancy]

Heh. [ She has no plans getting attached anytime soon herself, but cracks a little smile. ] Some people really are too kind for their own good. But I don't know where we'd be without them.

I want to see you breathe fire.

[kerontribution]

Okay.

[Oryou lifts off in the air so she doesn't risk singing Hlasoh's hair, inhales deeply, and lets loose an impressive burst of fire.]

[nihilmancy]

[ Hlasoh grins up at her in delight and fascination. Her senses are still expanded, drinking in the fluctuations and transformation of complex forms of matter and energy. You know. Mana. ]

Oh, very nice! And could I see you fly around some?

[kerontribution]

Easy.

[Does a few loop de loops over Hlasoh's head. Showing off!]

[nihilmancy]

[ She gives a polite little clap. And she tunes down those magical senses some. Too much trying to feverishly examine Oryou's ability and she's liable to get a headache. ]

I can show you some of my abilities too, if you'd like.

[kerontribution]

Oryou wants to see. Are they fun?

[Floats back down nearer to the ground.]

[nihilmancy]

Perhaps.

[ A wave of thought reaches toward Oryou's mind, carefully probing. Seeking, but not demanding access. ]

[kerontribution]

[Oh, hello there. Oryou allows it in, at least to the surface level of her thoughts. No digging around for trauma, she'll get mad.]

[nihilmancy]

[ Hlasoh couldn't dig around, even if she were inclined to. For the most part, it's a much more constrained ability. ]

< This is the Language of Stars. >

[ She glances at a pebble on the ground, and it lifts to eye level, drifting in orbit around her. ]

< This is the Hand of the Imperator. >

Oryou didn't know you could talk to stars. [Answering out loud because she doesn't think to do otherwise.] What do they have to say?

[nihilmancy]

[ She replies aloud. ]

It's a romantic title. Nevertheless, it has been shown that signals emanate from stars reminiscent of consciousness. That is why we call this ability to link minds, 'the Language of Stars.'

[kerontribution]

Ooooh.

[So it's not actually a language you can talk to stars in... that's not quite as cool, but.]

Oryou thinks it's impressive.

[nihilmancy]

We also may call it that because the use of this ability was developed in large part for the crews of starships to operate more efficiently.

[kerontribution]

That makes sense. It's hard to yell in space.

[nihilmancy]

The ships have air inside them, you know.

[kerontribution]

Oh. That would help too.

[nihilmancy]

Starships are enormous, complex machines, with crew that can number in the thousands. To communicate instantaneously and synchronize their actions is an enormous boon.

Mm. I believe I have shown you enough for today. Perhaps later you may discover my ultimate art.
