[Anyone who spends any borderline-significant amount of time in Amberfall Library would know Neuvillette, even if only by sight. The man has been a staple presence in the place for well over a year, and somehow manages to avoid the worst of the fae antics that go on by virtue of what seems to be a mutual respect.]

I'm looking for any first-hand information that anyone who has interacted directly with the foremost public figures of this world could give me about any of the individuals in question.

[His voice is polite, even-toned, and his opalescent eyes hold a quiet curiosity.]

To clarify - I have no issues with approaching them directly. I find it a prudent idea to be as aware as I can about prior interactions between the Otherworlders and the Ellipsa leaders before making my own contact.

[Neuvillette bows his head a little.]

I've spoken with Olwen many times.

He seems to always have drinks available.

I tend to have drinks available when meeting people, myself, as a matter of courtesy.

[This... is probably more because Neuvillette is very polite and not because the people he's dealing with give him constant headaches.]

Do you find him to be open to your communication with him, when you do speak?

[ Encouraging alcoholism is courtesy? Good to know. He doesn't need to feel bad about paying for Gintoki's drinks that time, then. But also he mentions none of this because really, it's none of his business. ]

Yes. He even listens to shit that has nothing to do with him, if he thinks you need it.

[Levi please he means water or tea, we do not encourage alcoholism as a form of courtesy..! Though if Olwen is needing to Drink when Levi comes to see him that really might say a lot about their interactions.]

It seems that Olwen is a good point to begin, for several reasons. Not least that he is the one who welcomes us to this world.

[ Yea buddy, if Levi had meant tea, he would have said tea. Olwen's very much got booze stashed in his desk. Whether or not that started with him is anyone's guess. But yes, truly, it's a fact worth a thousand words isn't it... ]

[ In case there was any doubt about that. He's not judging him or anything. In fact, Levi has shared Drinks with him, even, at some points, not that he is actually able to get drunk without buying that potion from Riki's. ]

I have interviewed all of them recently and found them to be who they say they are, at least for the time being. They were quite welcoming to conversation, though somewhat pressed for time.

What in particular interests you?

Primarily their individual mannerisms, and how open they are to suggestions and working with us as visitors to their world.

Oh, very open far as I could tell, as long as it does not threaten this world. Perhaps not often readily available to work with you so much as direct you to the appropriate resources, but it's not surprising.

Olwen, the winter user, is the leader and seems most responsible. Calm and careful, as a general is ought to be, but there's a warmth to him still.

Jade of spring is... lively. Cheerful and friendly, but you'll want to steer the conversation a little.

The summer user, Dawn, I would say something of a party girl, but seems to possess a positive work ethic. Very stylish.

Sawyer, the autumn, is the youngest and it rather shows. He is, let's say, a bit averse to responsibility, though I do not believe him to be malicious. Another year or few might help him smooth a few sharp edges. If you wish for timely help with a project however, it is probably a good idea to prioritize asking the others first.

[ He might add a few more details about the way each of them speaks and carries themselves ~~but the player doesn't know such minutea unfortunately~~, as well. ]

Your interviews have clearly given you some results.

I have no wish to unseat them from their positions, they may be assured of that. I am aware that there was once someone here in what might have been called a liason posting.

I prefer being thorough.

One of the earliest arrivals made it his work to act as a liaison between the Otherworlders and the leaders here.

He has been gone for some time now but I hope to assume that the willingness to work together in the same way still exists on both sides.

I hardly think our current situation requires a middle man of that caliber. Unless you plan to negotiate a group contract or champion more Otherworlder rights, why would someone want to talk to a third party and hope they pass on their wishes accurately rather than talking directly to those responsible, especially when either results in the same amount of work for both sides?

I see no harm in my taking a direct approach if only on my own terms, and if time is wasted, it is only my own time.

[ that... sounds like you're agreeing with him? he'll take that. ]

[He... may have been agreeing. Or simply gently sidestepping the actual question, as he is occasionally wont to do.]

If Riki counts, I talked to Riki after I died from using a Wishing Star wrong. He seemed genuinely sorry about what happened? He put up a warning so that no one else would try the same thing I did, and he gave me a voucher for a free item in apology.

He seemed nice.

Riki... the... store owner, correct?

[He says it as though seeking confirmation, not because he does not think Riki is important. Store owners and traders can have large amounts of sway in both public opinion and politics and he knows this.]

That's him. Apparently he's also usually the one coming up with the ideas for the items he stocks.

An inventive individual, then.

[Though he doesn't find it so strange that a store owner would do such a thing. Those in Fontaine often come up with their own stock ideas, too.]

I wonder where he sources those things, once he thinks of them.

Maybe he has a staff? You'd have to ask him about it.

Perhaps I shall, though I'm more interested in his sphere of influence within existing markets.

It's definitely rare. I think I've only heard of one other otherworlder doing that.

Would that have been Kamisato Ayato, by any chance?

I'm pretty sure they were a woman? This would've been... a couple years ago.

[Frieda can't help but feel curious about what matter Neuvillette intends to bring up with the local leaders, but rather than pry, she'll just share her experiences.]

Out of the guild leaders, Dawn has left a strong impression on me! She supported Shadow and myself when we uncovered the subterfuge behind the strife in the Great Ocean Lake. Without her diplomatic leadership, we'd have been hard-pressed to have the leaders there hear us out.

[She'll never not be grateful and proud. The peace treaty between the lakefolk is easily her proudest (co-)accomplishment.]

Mayor Michael, too, has shown great care for the people. He supported me without hesitation when I approached him regarding the improvement of us vampires' coexistance with the other people of Nightwake.

[He nods. He already knows Frieda has some experience here and is more than happy to listen to what she has to say on the matter.]

And the others, do you know anything of them?

Jade is a reliable guild leader in my opinion. She's responsible and brave! But I reckon that can be said about all four of them. I admire their dedication and how thoroughly they always prepare the large expeditions; I always find them remarkably well-managed!

[From basic necessities to small luxuries, everything is always provided to participants, and that's without going into the generous reward they pay out each time!]

But I really need to praise the wisdom and leadership of Kali and Makai, the rulers of the Great Ocean Lake, too. It'd have been easy to dismiss our findings as lies, all the more with how entrenched the conflict was, but they were open-minded enough to hear us and each other out!

[He nods carefully, making a couple of notes off-camera.]

I agree. The leaders here seem very pragmatic, for the most part, even if open collaboration with the Otherworlders does not necessarily benefit them directly.

[Hmm~]

Useful information. For all my experience in Fontaine's justice system, dealing with other nations and communication with their leaders was not something I often did.

[She nods enthusiastically. The leaders here have been nothing short of altruistic, as far as she's concerned, especially in contrast with the backstabbing and infighting among the ruling class of the Eldian Empire.]

For all I can say, it's incredibly rare to see such collaboration between different lands and races. I'd have expected far more prejudice and mistrust! The absence of those things is perhaps more magical than anything else in this world.

[Given his reflection on his own experience, she does inquire after all:]

Are you endeavouring to work more closely with all of them, then?

[Given that she's come to view herself as somewhat of an unofficial envoy to the people of the Great Ocean Lake, Neuvillette would be more than suited for a similar role, she thinks.]

Perhaps. I shall first see where my enquiries take me.

[And he is prepared to be patient - it will take time to get to know the various leaders and what he can expect from them, but Neuvillette is very long-lived and already accustomed to things like that.]

Nor would I assume a lack of mistrust simply because we have not witnessed it first-hand. Given the occasions in which the Otherworlders have associated with the other nations here, it wouldn't have benefitted them to demonstrate negative relations.

[Again she concurs. Given the threats Ellipsa faces, there's been a great need for collaboration that supersedes any potential animosity.]

[Not that she really expects him to need any help - he's plenty capable, and the local leaders haven't ever turned anyone away to her knowledge.]

[He nods. Neuvillette is accustomed to achieving things without assistance, but that doesn't mean he's going to turn his nose up at somebody offering their help should he need it.]

In the very least it should offer me an opportunity to view the more subtle workings of this world's politics for myself.

I'm sure there's a lot happening behind the scenes that we aren't privy to... even though the leaders do include us in the execution of almost any plan, it might be a big benefit if we had representation in the planning, too. We might bring entirely different solutions to the table.

[After all, the otherworlder community's skill sets are vast, and undertakings that are challenging for the locals could be tackled from entirely different angles if they had a seat at the table!]

It has been pointed out to me that given the leaders' willingness to speak to us, a formal intermediary is not necessary. But, as you say, our representation may be of benefit and it seems we do not have that in any official capacity.

[He nods to himself.]

I still intend to speak to them.

[Who knows, perhaps one of these days, it'll be him who reaches out to them all with instructions for the next mission! But even if he works with the leaders in the background, she has no doubt that his measured insight will be beneficial.]
