My name's Evangeline, and I'm single and ready to mingle and all that - nice to meet everyone. -I'm not normally interested in other humans, but I've been asked to do a lot worse for energy production, so this isn't so bad.

That's not actually what I wanted to talk about though. I've only just gotten here and I've already gotten some serious culture shock reading through people's introductions and talking to locals. It's not so much that people have different answers to questions than me, but the whole basic questions are different, you know?

It's like - people have been saying what city they're from, but where I'm from, there's just one city. It's the City. You don't have to give it a name because it's the only one. There's more stuff like that, too, where I don't even really have the right words to explain the difference.

I was wondering if anyone else was having a similar experience?

I see. Similar, in a way. Had I a map of Teyvat on me, I could offer a visual explanation. Unfortunately, I don't.

I would love to compare and contrast. For now, could you tell me what you mean, specifically, by unihabitable?

The Outskirts are barren of any kind of plant life and are full of powerful Abnormalities - monsters is the common term, formed from the human unconscious. Even the weakest Abnormality can easily kill a normal human, and the strong ones can wipe out entire Nests. If you're in the Outskirts, no one will come to help you - it's your own fault for being there if you die.

As far as I know, there's just nothing else out there.

Creatures created from the human unconscious mind? It would be fascinating if not for the fact that they must have overrun the general population.

My question was more in regards to flora and fauna. Is there any life out there that would make it unsuitable to survive out there. Abnormalities aside, of course.

The immediate Outskirts is pretty desert-y, and you'd have to get through a lot of Abnormalities to find other terrain. I know there are normal animals, because we have stories about the Black Forest from our investigation of the Abnormalities there and those include regular animals, but I couldn't really tell you what's out there.

It might not be literally uninhabitable, but it's universally considered not worth trying.

Unfortunate. The untamed wilderness usually has much to offer.

Is there no way to be rid of the Abnormalities? I would assume that there have been efforts made in the past.

Good luck, they're all basically immortal. The best we've managed is containment, and even that has an incredibly high mortality rate for people working with them.

High mortality rate? Simply because they are that powerful?

That and a prioritizing of results over employee safety.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised at all to hear that. While I can agree that results are important, nothing is more so than the safety and wellbeing of those involved.

I'm starting to notice a pattern where every person who tells me about their world seems to have come from a nicer place to live, at least in terms of 'callousness toward people dying all the time'.

That largely depends upon the person or even groups of people. I know as many people that wish to preserve life as I do that disregard it completely for the sake of results.
