Hello! Hi!
[There's a cheerful-looking young woman in a suit, with a flower in her hair and a green armband.]
My name's Evangeline, and I'm single and ready to mingle and all that - nice to meet everyone. -I'm not normally interested in other humans, but I've been asked to do a lot worse for energy production, so this isn't so bad.
That's not actually what I wanted to talk about though. I've only just gotten here and I've already gotten some serious culture shock reading through people's introductions and talking to locals. It's not so much that people have different answers to questions than me, but the whole basic questions are different, you know?
It's like - people have been saying what city they're from, but where I'm from, there's just one city. It's the City. You don't have to give it a name because it's the only one. There's more stuff like that, too, where I don't even really have the right words to explain the difference.
I was wondering if anyone else was having a similar experience?

Evangeline flinches when the door opens and she sees that familiar black and yellow. Every muscle in her body tenses, preparing to run.
But that's foolishness. You can't run from an Arbiter. You might as well be sitting down when you die.
Evangeline takes a seat at the table.]
Yes, ma'am.

You may rest easy. In this place, I am neither Arbiter nor Sephirah. I stand, as I said, no higher than you.
[ a sip - delicate, calm. her own dark eyes rest squarely on evangeline's, her gaze unyielding.
punishing bird flitters across the room, coming to rest on binah's shoulder. it does not peck her. ]
The tea is safe, should it be to your liking. Its aroma may be muted, but it holds no deceit within its darkness.

...It's good, thank you.
[Her gaze flicks to Punishing Bird, and even in her fear her expression softens a little upon seeing it, before returning to look at Binah.]

The smaller of the two holds little threat to you. [ she turns her head softly, gazing to the left. a very large boy sits in the corner of the room, watching evangeline curiously. ] The larger will require more care - though with your credentials, I imagine you have read its notes before. As enkephalin is of little concern here, your assistance should be on Qliphoth prevention rather than any sort of harvesting.

[But more to the point-]
Did you come here with Judgment Bird? Or...

[ a small hum of thought; binah closes her eyes, clearly thinking even as she speaks. ]
Fret not, child. The beast of the forest will not wreak havoc upon this place.

Damage is usually minimal. I wouldn't be allowed to work the way I do if I put the facility in disrepair.

What methods, precisely, do you use?
no subject
Evangeline looks Binah directly in the eyes.]
Sexual.

binah, with a shocking delicacy, reaches for her cup. she takes another sip of tea. she sets the cup down. and finally, she speaks: ]
Putting aside the issue of protocols and procedures for now, [ and oh, that's the sound of a former arbiter who genuinely cannot believe the words that have just been said to her face, ] will these methods produce the desired result for both Abnormalities?
[ look. she's not going to judge.
okay, that's a lie she wouldn't even bother with. she is absolutely judging, and more importantly she is looking at evangeline with the sudden interest of a predator that has realized the meal it enjoys is in front of it. but for now, they do have a priority, and it's ensuring a lack of breaches for the indefinite future. ]

[She actually managed to say all of that, to an Arbiter looking at her like she's fresh meat, without her voice shaking. She might be disassociating a little.]
no subject
Then do as you will, child. Know that my room is off-limits, and that as long I reside here you will notify me before engaging in coitus with the Abnormalities.
[ it's clear in her voice that even she can't believe she's had to say that aloud. ]
Past that... I will defer to your judgment.

[That's the least she would do even if Binah wasn't still terrifying.]

[ for a moment, binah says nothing. she just sips her tea in silence, finishing the cup in two small drinks. and then she stands, saying peaceably- ]
I find myself drained from our arrival. For now, I will retire. [ she reaches into the folds of her coat, pulling a small ornate key and tossing it to evangeline. ] For the door, should you come or go.
[ and without a further word, she walks - glides practically, with that coat trailing behind her - to her room. the door opens; the door shuts. and just like that, evangeline is safe once more. ]
thread wrapup
Thank you.
[...And then it's just her and Big Bird. As promised, Evangeline will not seduce them today, but she will spend fully an hour getting to know them, letting them get used to her presence and her sweet words ("has anyone ever told you they could get lost in your eyes?").
Even if she only gets to pet Big Bird, that's still one check mark off her bucket list.]
