001❄️ video;
[ooc: Potential for FF16 Spoilers in threads. If you still want to tag her but want to avoid mid to late game spoilers, I will be as vague as possible.]
[At first, the video is unfocused, almost dark, but something seems to be very close to the camera. That something also happens to be making the distinct snuffling noises of a canine. Leaning back away from the recording device, a pair of yellow eyes surrounded by thick gray and white fur greets the network. This is a very fluffy dog. You're welcome.]
Torgal...? Did you do something to make it work?
[Jill picks up the strange device, staring down at the screen.]
Hello...? Can anyone actually see me?
[She feels incredibly silly right now talking to a - whatever this thing is. Regardless, she'll push on. It's clearly recording her, or so she believes. Otherwise she's just talking to an inanimate object.]
I think I understand the reason we are here, as we're all told, but I don't suppose anyone has come to a tangible conclusion of 'why us' and 'how might we return to where we're from?' I don't suppose anyone else has questioned whether or not we're being given the truth?

[Wave!
One of Jill's first welcomes is from a young man sporting a pair of very mobile cat ears that wiggle just slightly as he greets her.]
We can see you.
[And your cute dog, too.]
And uh... if anyone's asked the question and got a good answer, they've not told the rest of us. [E'kayan makes a face and purses his lips slightly, rubbing one hand against the back of his hair.] Don't think I believe everything's how they say it is, personally...
no subject
I see. I don’t mean to be skeptical, but it’s just strange is all. Everything about this place is.
[Definitely intrigued by those ears.]
How long have you been here?
no subject
[He has to think about it for a second.]
A few months, I guess? Doesn't feel like so long. [The young man shrugs and gives her a smile.] But I'd say keep being sceptical. I don't think we can trust everything we're being told.
[A beat.]
Ah, that sounded way more ominous than I meant it to.
no subject
No, not ominous at all. If anything, it's good to have a bit of caution, isn't it?
[Smiling thoughtfully.]
Everyone has been kind to me, you included. Even if none of us knows how to return, I'm grateful for that much.
no subject
It just seems silly. Though, as he knows well enough... misery loves company.]
What's your name? I'm E'kayan. I guess your dog is Torgal, right?
[Hey there Torgal.]
no subject
At his question and his own introduction, she smiles more fully.]
My name is Jill. It is wonderful to meet you.
no subject
[He smiles cheerfully at her and though she can't see it (she might just be able to make it out in the background if she looks) his tail is swishing lazily from side to side while he speaks.]
Settling in here can be kinda weird, especially when you're used to being in dangerous situations a lot. [Speaking from experience.]
But uh, we're stuck here whether we like it or not, so I figure we should make the best of it for the time being.

Were they more cruel captors, I would have suggested forcing our way out.
They haven't bound or locked any of us in cells, which in itself is strange to me.
[Seriously, this is the nicest prison of any kind she's ever been in.]
no subject
think about it
how would we go on quests ands hit from inside a prison cell??
no subject
I cannot say I appreciate being made to do quests, as you put it.
Wouldn't that become tedious after a while? Having to do so many of them, I mean.
[Not that she's unfamiliar, per say. She tagged along with Clive on many trips to and from the Hideaway.]
no subject
but if ~quests~ aren't your speed you could always try getting a fucking job
[or crime, but he won't suggest that one in public]

I am afraid we have no such answers as of yet. As to whether we have been given the truth of Ellipsa and its situation, I can only say that it seems to be the case from our experiences so far. This world has been drawing people in for but a few moons, as I understand it. No doubt there is still much and more for us to uncover and discover.
((Canonblind but I don't care about spoilers :Db))

[Honestly, the formality is a comfort. It reminds her of Joshua.]
I hope I'm not the only one in a hurry to return, then. If it's even possible. It's just... I was hoping to be reunited with someone, but it seems we're even further apart now.
[She's sure Clive would try to rescue her no matter what. She only hopes that he and the others are well despite being separated.]
Though, I suppose there is nothing to be done for it at present. I am grateful that the people here are so kind. I can't imagine this is easy for anyone else, not just myself.
no subject
[His expression softens sadly at the mention of her separation. But she's right - there's nothing to be done for it at the moment, so maybe it's better not to dwell on it.]
Indeed, the people here seem willing and ready to help others. I would like to think that Olwen and the others are choosing well who they bring to Ellipsa. We are all experiencing the same situation, as you say. Though strange as it may sound, many here are finding they enjoy life in this world for the most part. I cannot say whether they would choose to stay here instead of return to their own world - just that for all we have been separated from, Ellipsa is not so terrible a place. For what comfort that is worth.

[There is a somber note in her words, which causes Torgal to whine and put his head in her lap.]
Where I am from... [She hesitates a moment before pressing on -] people who can use magic are abused for their power. Here, they are treated as equals and in fact everyone can use magic here. That is why I wish to go back.
[To give other people that taste of freedom too.]
no subject
Halone preserve, how terrible. I've not heard of such a thing before. Magic is commonplace in my own world. Near everyone can use it, even creatures. One does not have to be a mage, either - those who fight with sword and spear can manipulate their aether to enhance their skills. The only people who cannot do so are the Garleans.
[He pauses, and his demeanour sombres.] Though I am loath to admit it, my world is, perhaps, an opposite of yours. Long ago, the Garleans were driven from their homelands by other races, who overpowered them with magic. It is only through the development of advanced machinery that they were able to even the odds, and they soon became a powerful, vengeful empire. [Aymeric sighs] I do not believe that people are inherently so violent at heart. But the desire to protect our livelihoods and loved ones can become twisted if not checked...twisted enough to lose sight of the personhood of others outside of our own circles.
no subject
[It's not the best of topics, but at least she feels better for being able to speak of it. Their worlds may be the opposite, but maybe it was salvageable for them?]
What happens to people here who use their magic? Do they die after expending enough of their aether? I apologize for laying the difficult questions at your feet.
video, un: vonhresvelg
Your companion seems very helpful.
[ She almost smiles. ]
I see you well, though I fear I have no better answers for you. I had many questions when I arrived a month ago and few have been answered to my satisfaction. I would like to know exactly what conditions must be met before I am returned and how I can make sure those conditions are achieved.
Re: video, un: vonhresvelg
I think it mostly was him shoving his nose against it until something worked? I can't say for sure.
[She at least finds video easier than trying to figure out texting which is a whole other thing. She can read the words but trying to figure out those tiny little buttons is strange.]
Thank you for the honesty at least. No one I've spoken to so far has any more answers than you or I. I know I am in a hurry to return, but I am grateful for everyone's kindness in at least acknowledging the questions I pose.
no subject
I wish I could offer more. I share your urgency but it seems many of us are on uncertain footing.
Fortunately I have yet to meet anyone here who has seemed unkind. [ Even the people she is at war with at home are more or less willing to cooperate for the common goal of finding their way back. ] I will be happy to pass along any useful information I come across.
no subject
[Clive would probably be beside himself with worry.]
Thank you, again. I apologize for not making an earlier introduction. My name is Jill.
