004: Valentine's Distractions (Video; un: caster)

[It had been something of a tradition, whilst Caster was on Avalon, to spend Valentine's Day pestering the Network with whatever random questions crossed her mind for discussion. It was a distraction, for her. A way to avoid thinking about what date it was and how far away she was from the one person she wished to spend it with-

And she seemed to have taken Oryou's advice and- whilst she was still in her creepy witch cloak- was not hidden away in a shadowy room. Instead, she seemed to be hanging around outside the Welcome Centre when she began her broadcast.]

Good evening, Ellipsa.

For those I haven't met yet, I go by Caster, here.

A question, if you are tired of the day's festivities and willing to humour me... if you could travel anywhere you wished, in any world, right at this moment, where would you go to?

...But if that is too personal for you, then tell me about your favourite myths or legends from home. It is always interesting for me to see how these things differ across the worlds.

While they may not be from my home, I've always had a fascination with Arthurian legend. The exploits of the Round Table inspired me greatly, they're why I chose the path of a Knight.

i can see why i have met a handful of the knights in my time and they were certainly interesting in their own way

Indeed they are. I once had the honor of fighting Sir Tristan himself, though I did not know it at the time. He fought exactly the way a knight should, with passion and ingenuity. Tying me down with the weight of an entire town was a particularly inspired move.

[She's maybe gushing a little bit.]

that sort of strength is certainly impressive i doubt i would have much hope against that sort of power without resorting to underhanded tactics as for me in the holy grail war i found myself up against a certain very difficult saber

The King of Knights, correct? Chaldea did not have much information on the Fuyuki Grail War on record, but I know that much. It was both astounding and confusing for me to meet her. She looked exactly like Faerie Britain's Child of Prophecy, right down to the name, and the two of us did not quite get along.

[If Artoria Caster wanted to be acknowledged or remembered, she shouldn't have been so short.]

but also very cute and you mean to say there was one you knew who resembled her come to think of it i did meet another who had that look about her it in the last world like this i visited she called herself the red saber and was adorable as well

True, what I've seen does indicate that resembling King Arthur is far from uncommon, but they were downright identical.

As for the red saber, I can think of two offhand it might be. Either Mordred, or Nero Claudius. Given you used the words "she" and "adorable," I'm inclined to guess Nero.

indeed it was her although she was not particularly public about her identity back then neither of us were but she was good company i would have liked to have seen who came out stronger of her and the king of knights but i did not ever see them spar

The strangest part was, she wasn't alone. An Alter version, a fully-grown Lancer, an Alter version of the Lancer, a younger version, her in a swimsuit, the older version in a swimsuit, the Alter version in a maid-themed swimsuit, an Assassin of Sabers from another universe... the list goes on. There isn't a Servant in Chaldea with more variations of their Spirit Origin.

i what i have many questions but honestly i would sooner forget about the younger version of me existing to start with it is embarrassing

Yes, your Chaldean self felt much the same. The only time I've even heard of you getting along was when the two of you were celebrating the news of the death of Aphrodite in the Atlantic Lostbelt.

[There were a few false starts when she replied as she tried to get here head around that response- but perhaps she would see them before Medea deleted them.

To think, that in one of the Lostbelts, Aphrodite herself was destroyed? That almost felt too surreal to believe. As it was, even with her knowledge of Lostbelts, that was another level entirely- was her Crypter Psuedo-Master in Avalon even aware of what happened? Which Crypter was in charge of that Lostbelt, anyway?]

Yes, the British one. Although it would be more accurate to describe it as more of a Lostworld. High Queen Morgan's efforts brought it to a level of reality the others did not have.

Yes, she had ruled the fae for two thousand years before Chaldea's arrival, and even before her rule she was active as Asch the Savior.
She was originally the Ruler class Servant of Beryl Gut, but sent her own mind back in time to a past version of herself that had existed before the pruning to prevent the total collapse of Faerie Britain.

[Beryl, was it...so that must be the name of the Crypter managing that Lostbelt. And an accomplished Magus, from what she knew. Still, a Ruler Class? That was a new one, but she supposed the title spoke by itself.]

to call on a servant like that that master must have had impressive power behind them still i cannot say i have encountered a ruler class servant before now

[There was a lot of other points she wanted to dig into as well- the pruning being one, a Servant going back to the past like that being another (if she could ever do the same, would she be able to stop everything that happened...? To stop herself from betraying her family for Jason's sake?) but one question at a time.]

His power was only matched by his unpleasantness. Beryl Gut was a worthless wretch of a man who took joy only from the suffering of others, and he was a terrible influence on Baobhan Sith.

Rulers are typically summoned by the Grail itself to oversee irregular Holy Grail Wars, but Chaldea's systems have allowed them to be summoned as regular Servants. I believe one of the conditions for qualifying is to have no actual interest in the Grail itself.

[She felt an uncomfortable, twisting sensation in her stomach at the words she read. Well, of course it was to be expected, the Crypers were Chaldea's enemies- and those who had originally been from the Lostbelts surely had stronger feelings still.

Caster made a mental note to keep her own feelings close to her chest.]

well if i see him or his ilk skulking around i will be sure to watch my back i suppose that is common with most magi isnt it selfish people who take pride in their inferior magic who only see servants as tools they can exploit to satisfy their own desires and discard once they have what they want they are not too different from certain self proclaimed heroes of the past in that way

I'll admit, I have little experience with the average human magus. I only know Beryl Gut and Ritsuka Fujimaru, who couldn't be more different if they tried. I have, however, come to understand that Chaldea's Master is the exception that proves the rule?

chaldeas master is the exception yes most masters see servants simply as tools it is as i said they care only about getting their desires granted regardless of what becomes of us some bother to use our wishes to make false promises others make no effort to hide their distain worthless fools the one who summoned me in fuyuki was one such wretch but after i did away with him i found a master i could work well with i have seen plenty of awful ones in my time but a handful who have proven their worth

I would kill such a man as well. Fools who would mock those stronger than them and treat them like slaves have little right to live.

On second thought, I could also simply consume his Command Seals until he has no means left to control me. A Servant is not obligated to obey their Master, after all.

Like I said, a fool. If he disliked that you had more power than him, he should have strived to close the gap. Earning the favor of a Caster of your strength could have propelled him to great heights.

Strong Eater isn't entirely like your Noble Phantasm. What I consume simply becomes nourishment for me, nothing more. While Command Seals are delicious, I could not actually utilize them in any way.

[Yes, Oryou was someone who could understand her pain. And in truth, Oryou's answer to the question was much the same as her own.

[And in a few minutes, there's a knock on Caster's door. Open up, she's here to hug.]

[Ah, that must be Oryou- she quickly opened the door to her and readily accepted any offered hugs!]

...You could tell? I must be losing my touch if you could see through me so easily.

Friends are supposed to know each other.

[It was very much appreciated! Medea held onto her tight, a small smile coming into her face at the comment.]

Yes... perhaps you're right.

...Today is...it's difficult. You understand, don't you? I wish my magic was enough to bring them both here.

Oryou wishes that too. This is a long time to be separated from her husband.

[Maybe not for a dragon's lifespan, but for her in her own circumstances - it's a long time.]

Oryou wants to meet your Master someday.

I'd like to introduce you...and I want to meet your Husband, too.

Yes please. Oryou wants to cuddle now.

[Caster reached to take Oryou's hand in both of her's, gently tugging her in and over to the sofa. There we go, much more comfortable.]

...It is cruel of this world to separate us from them so callously.

[Huuuuug]

[Wrapping her arms around Caster to squeeze her close.]

It doesn't matter how nice this place is. If the people we love aren't here, we'll miss them all the time.

[A slow, deep breath, as she settled into Oryou's arms.]

Indeed... and without them, it is difficult to truly see this world as home.

[The word 'home' was heavy. Something she desperately wished for, something so far away, something so fragile it was all she could do to hold the pieces close lest they shatter.]

Home is where they are. If they're not here it's not home.

[It's as simple as that. No matter how long she spends here, her home is at Ryouma's side.]

Exactly that.

...I don't care how many of these wretched worlds I have to search- I will find him. I can't stand the thought of never seeing him again...!

Oryou hopes you find him. She wants you to be happy.

[Medea is a friend, and that means she deserves happiness, no matter what.]
