Will it help? [He gets up from his meditative pose and feigns a frown at his energetic love.] You're being cute.

[ He pretends to pout in answer, though his eyes are far too bright for it to be genuine. ]

A-Xu! You're the better judge at if what I'm doing will help. Come to the Clinic unless you're too tired.

Tch. [Zishu leaves their house, fairy dog Qing in tow, both flying towards the clinic. He lets the pup in first and Qing runs to Kexing, tongue lolling happily.]

Alright. Impress me.

[ Laughing, Kexing makes sure everything is tidy by the time his silly husband arrives. Herbs, medicines, teas, bandages, salves - everything he can think of that might be needed are ready, with more in the process of being made.

He beams at cute Qing and rubs over her ears in hello. ]

I've been working hard all day and you want more?

[ Standing, he makes sure his robes are straight before going to his husband, standing right inside his space...to pout for all his worth into those enchanting eyes. ]

[The neatness of the clinic, the full stock of what they will need to help people... Yes, it does help ease his mind. Zishu walks around, gently inspecting the jars while Qing wags her fluffy tail.

Then he is face to face with his soulmate again and he can't stop himself from smiling.]

No, you've done well. [He brushes his thumb over Kexing's pout.] This must have taken you awhile to do. Everything is exactly where it needs to be.

[ Zishu isn't the only one who's been worried about everyone who'd gone into the mines.

The gentle touch to his lips has the pout immediately fade and he smiles softly at his soulmate. He kisses that thumb and preens under the praise. ]

I'm working on making more, some that take longer.

[Oh he can't resist. The moment he feels the kiss, he embraces his Lao Wen, nuzzling his cheek against his shoulder.]

I'm here to help. Just direct me. You're the expert.

[Qing perches on a cushion by the fire, tucking her pretty wings against her back.]

[ The embrace earns a quiet sigh of happiness and he snuggles into those arms, curling his own around his love. ]

You're better than you think, A-Xu.

[ Kexing tugs his soulmate over to the pot simmering over the fire. ]

Keep an eye on this one. When it gets thicker, let me know.

[ Qing gets another few pets and scritches for being such a good girl. Kexing also moves a second table to the fire for Zishu to work on while the next salve cooks the moisture away. He brings a mortar and pestle over before pulling out various dried herbs. ]

These should be ground to powder.

[ For his own table, he returns to the shelves with baskets of more herbs and raw supplies. ]

A-Xu, tomorrow, would you go with me to get more herbs? We'll need more soon.

[The sigh is heard and it makes his smile broader. He gives Kexing a small squeeze before following him to the pot. Peering inside, he nods gently.]

I have the best teacher. [His eyes sparkle as he glances at his love one more time.] Your parents would be proud.

[Qing gives him a happy puppy smile and stretches out her back legs, splooting before the fire. She knows what feels good!]

Got it. [Zishu sprinkles the herbs into the mortar and begins grinding them into a powder.]

Of course. Spring is probably the best place, right? Though some do grown in Autumn now that I think about it.

[ The squeeze makes him melt all over again! Flushing at the comment about his parents, he steals a soft kiss. ]

They taught me as much as they had time for.

[ And he'd kept learning as much as he could, wanting to keep their memory as alive as he could. And avenge them. That's what had kept him going.

He beams down at Qing before pulling out herbs for the next batch of tea bags. Getting to work on measuring out each special blend, he hums in answer. ]

It is, and Spring has the easier to get ones. Autumn is a bit trickier, but nothing we can't handle.

[Zishu separates the powdered herbs into different containers, turning his head just in time to enjoy the little kiss. His heart skips in his chest and he feels immune to any Winter chill.]

Their son is remarkable. I remember them. They would smile every time they saw you, love, and speak to you softly. You are their pride and joy.

[He fishes out a treat for Qing from his pocket and tosses it to her. She catches it in her mouth and flutters her wings contentedly.]

Anything you think we need, we'll get. Leave the hard work to me. You've done enough here.

[ Remembering his parents hurts, even now. But he can handle it, because he has his A-Xu's love and support.

Kexing abandons his work to step up behind his love, wrapping his arms around his waist and just leans against his back, nuzzling in for a moment. ]

We'll do it together.

You're right. Try not to imagine desperate or dire situations. [He needs to take his own advice.] We just need to be as prepared as we can be.
