[Deep breath.]

Being stuck without any magic when you've relied on magic for... almost twenty years kind of sucks, actually. [Anyone who was there would no doubt be able to guess he's referring to the mines, where all magic had been nullified almost immediately on entry.

The small, orange-haired Miqo'te panicking about it might have been missed, but he most assuredly did panic.]

Could someone spare some time to teach me how to fight without it? I know how to handle a sword... kind of, but it's part of one of the magic styles I know, so I'm not sure how much use that will be...

[E'kayan is not usually embarrassed about things, but he does look a little embarrassed to be asking about this.]

I don't want to be caught out like that again.

[Hijikata's expression turns a little blank for a moment - he's never heard those terms before, so he wonders whether there are different rabbit people in E'kayan's world, or he himself got things mixed up -, but his smile returns right away.]

I'm glad for you too, then. It's hard to properly get to know someone when all your time and energy goes into saving the world, huh?

[Is it, Hijikata? Is it really? Aren't there, in fact, many epic romances about love blooming on the path of adventure? Granted, it all comes down to how much time there is for talks at the campfire and how many pivotal badass last-second life-saving moments happen!]

Oh, not when you're trying to save the world with that someone.

[It would be a very lonely life, after all, if all he ever did was fight against the various forces and entities trying to bring their star to an early end. They have long since moved past the times when he wondered if they only saw him as a weapon, when it felt like only Alisaie had his back and saw him as an actual person...

He shrugs his shoulders a little.]

You forge really close bonds with people when you stare death in the face with them a few times.

[So he and Erenville are in the world-saving business together for the long term... that is reassuring.]

Yeah. You can say that again.

[Granted, he and his annoying-ass friends back home aren't exactly saving the world, but they've survived a good number of deadly situations together at this point, and he knows that it counts for something. Stretching once more with a sigh, he gets up from the water.]

We'd best get out of here before we grow gills. Or do you want to stay a little longer?

[Not as much as Hijikata might think! He and Erenville are only recent acquaintances in the grand scheme of it all, though that doesn't make him less important... and they've definitely been through it together.

Erenville really got tossed in the deep end of E'kayan's life when they went to Tural.]

Mm, yeah, we can get out. My fur's gonna dry funny if I stay in too long anyway.

[He laughs a little as he grabs his towel, wondering what that's look like.]

I'd really love to go on a quest with you one of these days. If feels like it'd be a breeze!

[With such big guns in E'kayan's arsenal, even challenging tasks ought to feel like an entry-level dungeon!]

[The Miqo'te gets himself out of the water and grabs a towel too, though his tail seems to shake itself off of its own accord.]

Some of them are. It depends if what's involved can mess with my magic or not.

[Without it, he's still pretty defenceless.]

I've been trying to work around that.

We can train again! I'm at the Grand Collosseum almost every day.

[Today they ended up spending much more time on their anything-goes spar than on the blade training, but Hijikata's always up for another go. He does live by the sword!]

Just swing by or shoot me a message. Honestly, with how fit you are, it'll just be a matter of time until you'll be on par with me.

[He doesn't want to suggest that E'kayan may well end up outclassing him even at his signature discipline, but it's damn hard to not be left in the dust by a Warrior of Light!]

[E'kayan grins a bit, though somewhat modestly, at the compliment as he rubs the towel over his hair and leaves it sticking up messily for a moment before running his hand through it.]

Should be careful saying things like that, I'm liable to take it as a challenge.

[He would. Despite not necessarily relishing danger, he does like a bit of a challenge.]

But yeah, I know, I'm there a lot too. See you there all the time.

[He almost says something like "I'm glad you noticed me", but catches himself in time to realise what a cringeworthy thing to say that'd be and just leave it at a sheepish smile.]

All the better. You won't miss me, then - and neither vice versa!

[He's seen E'kayan around too, but it'll be much easier to hit him up again now that they have rapport with each other! Finishing his own hair-drying efforts, he leads the way back to the lockers, feeling pretty damn accomplished. Sure, he got his ass kicked today, but what's an ass-kicking other than an icebreaker!]
