If this adventure with chain mail has taught me anything, 'tis that many of us here are having our first exposure to the internet, with all its amusements and pitfalls included. Thus, I thought it might be nice to introduce another 'getting to know each other' game that some of us might not know yet. This one won't involve pictures or ratings of attractiveness, not to worry.

This game is called 'two truths and a lie'. The premise is simple. You list three statements about yourself, two true and one false. Ideally they should all be similar levels of unbelievable. Then, other people respond to you to guess which one is the lie. We all learn a little about each other and have a bit of fun.

Two. I doubt a world without capitalism has ever existed to that extent.

Also, I hope three is true, that's fascinating.

The second is true, but our society is not capitalist. That is an ancient mode of political economy that has not existed in known space for thousands of years. Currency itself, ie capital, does have some use within the galactic economy, and on poorer worlds is often essential to the movement of labor and goods, but is not itself the pillar around which societies are organized.

It's quite impressive. Terribly dreary, too, I'm afraid.

That's sort of a relief. It's nothing but trouble.

I guess a school orbiting a black hole is just life to you, but it seems incredibly exotic to me.

Number one, on the other hand, that's very familiar. My species' concept of the sexes are rather fluid.

It's the only one of it's kind that I know of, so it's not that prosaic to me either.

You are not Homo Sapiens? But no, it isn't quite like that. I simply decided that I'd rather live as a girl. When I reached the age for puberty, I was given a different set of hormones by doctors, so that my body would mature in a manner I found suitable. That's all. I brought it up because it seemed like an unusual thing to most people here.

I'm glad you had that option when you were the right age to make that choice, then.

I'm not human, no. One of my abilities is shape shifting, so I can take on nonhuman forms as well as change my sex. My default is female only because of the way we reproduce, although I'm still not sure why I appear as human most of the time. My memories aren't all intact, which is one of the disadvantages.

It can be done later. It's just more intensive, depending on what the patient wants.

Oh, fascinating. You just get more and more interesting, do you know that? I'm terribly sorry for your memory, though.

I'm always glad when others find it interesting and not frightening.
Being inhuman has its ups and downs, usually depending on who you're talking to.

Thank you, but it's quite all right. I've made new memories in the last stretch which seem much better than anything I've recalled from before.

I've encountered many terrifying things. So far, I do not count you among them. Humanity is not itself a measure of virtue.

Good. To be able to choose who you are, in relation to your past, is a luxury that few can claim.

That's a relief. Fear isn't the feeling I was hoping to inspire in you.

I have mixed feelings about the amnesia, truthfully. But I do have that benefit, it's true.

What sort of feelings do you wish to inspire in me?

I imagine so. Contrary to my words, I am not telling you that that in itself is a blessing. I am not so boorish as that.

Something more along the lines of friendship or attraction or both.
One of those is accomplished more quickly than the other, granted.

I don't find you boorish at all. I just didn't want to pretend to be something I'm not, even if by omission.

You certainly interest me, Saya. [ She may read into that as she wishes. ]

Mm. I understand. It is best to live as truthfully as one can.

The goal is to live truthfully, yes. Fortunately I'm terrible at lies and secrets, it makes things easier.

It means that I enjoy speaking with you, and dancing with you. We should spend time together again.

Would that we all were.

I'm certainly for that. Did you have anything in mind?

A cup of coffee, or a drink, perhaps?

Either one sounds lovely. I suppose one would be more for a morning or afternoon and the other for evening.

Indeed. A nice walk through Springblossom would be quite fine as well. You're so interesting to talk to, Saya.

A walk would also be nice. And thank you, I try my best. You're very easy to talk to.

We need not limit ourselves to one thing, either.
