If this adventure with chain mail has taught me anything, 'tis that many of us here are having our first exposure to the internet, with all its amusements and pitfalls included. Thus, I thought it might be nice to introduce another 'getting to know each other' game that some of us might not know yet. This one won't involve pictures or ratings of attractiveness, not to worry.
This game is called 'two truths and a lie'. The premise is simple. You list three statements about yourself, two true and one false. Ideally they should all be similar levels of unbelievable. Then, other people respond to you to guess which one is the lie. We all learn a little about each other and have a bit of fun.

1. I used to be a boy when I was a young child.
2. Where I'm from, privately owned land is illegal.
3. I attended school at a monastery orbiting a black hole.

Okay. Hear me out
You listed one as unbelievable, so that means the world you're from is stupid and kind of bullshit like mine?
And that means they probably think landlords are cool there. So
I feel like that means two???
2/2
because... something like
even if people THOUGHT you were a boy you weren't a boy???
OKAY IT'S NUMBER ONE FINAL ANSWER SORRY???
no subject
The lie is number two. I listed one, because my interactions with people here gave me the impression that the background they are familiar with regarding matters like gender and sex, is quite different from my own, so I wondered if I should prod that just a little further. Or maybe I wondered if I could find others like myself?
I regret to say, though, that my society is stupid and kind of bullshit in a number of ways. The top echelon is the class of nobility, who are given personal or familial custody over land and other forms of property. Other influential organizations are given such rights as well. It only gets more ridiculous from there.
no subject
See. Now I just feel even more stupid??
Because I totally got it and then just. Jumped off the edge, I guess.
But it's really cool that you're. You know. The same as me?
Or at least kind of like it. I mean. I'm assuming you didn't become the devil to become a girl???
no subject
I did not. I would like to hear more about that. Please do not take my username as a threat, incidentally.

Well
I don't know what a black hole is so I wouldn't know how impossible that is.
So, going off of my ignorance, I would have to say 2 is the least likely.
no subject
Yes, 2 is the lie, though the Union of Free Systems, as well as a few smaller fringe states have done away with private property. I do not count myself a citizen of those places.
no subject
Ah, I see. There are some relatively small cultures that operate without private property, especially various nomadic peoples, but nothing on the scale of a union of territories.
I've done some light reading to assess how my world compares to others, and the majority of regions would be described as being under the feudal system of government. Republics have been experimented with, but haven't quite fully formed.
Ah, and one last question. How literal is the "username" that you've chosen?
no subject
I would call the system of class that governs my society feudal as well. [ Unfortunately. ] There are republics on some worlds, but they're smaller. Weaker.
I exorcise entities that the Goetic Circle deems a risk, or an active danger, so fairly literal. Why, would you call yourself a demon? We may mean different things by the term.

Also, I hope three is true, that's fascinating.

[ "Capitalism." There's a word she has to dig up from history class. ]
The second is true, but our society is not capitalist. That is an ancient mode of political economy that has not existed in known space for thousands of years. Currency itself, ie capital, does have some use within the galactic economy, and on poorer worlds is often essential to the movement of labor and goods, but is not itself the pillar around which societies are organized.
It's quite impressive. Terribly dreary, too, I'm afraid.

I guess a school orbiting a black hole is just life to you, but it seems incredibly exotic to me.
Number one, on the other hand, that's very familiar. My species' concept of the sexes are rather fluid.
no subject
You are not Homo Sapiens? But no, it isn't quite like that. I simply decided that I'd rather live as a girl. When I reached the age for puberty, I was given a different set of hormones by doctors, so that my body would mature in a manner I found suitable. That's all. I brought it up because it seemed like an unusual thing to most people here.

However, my ignorance about the concept of a black hole makes me want to guess that one.
no subject
A black hole is an object formed from the death of a star. It is so dense that it exerts a pull that bends space and time. It pulls everything in, even light. It is inescapable.
no subject
I wonder how close that school could really be if even light could not escape it.
