If this adventure with chain mail has taught me anything, 'tis that many of us here are having our first exposure to the internet, with all its amusements and pitfalls included. Thus, I thought it might be nice to introduce another 'getting to know each other' game that some of us might not know yet. This one won't involve pictures or ratings of attractiveness, not to worry.

This game is called 'two truths and a lie'. The premise is simple. You list three statements about yourself, two true and one false. Ideally they should all be similar levels of unbelievable. Then, other people respond to you to guess which one is the lie. We all learn a little about each other and have a bit of fun.

[ Yeah okay, give him a moment, he'll make some tea because he feels he's gonna need it. ]

And it just got you several kettles of fish, figuratively speaking?

That's how it goes with gods. They don't really think about other people well.

Tell me about it.

[personal profile] stygios 2023-03-26 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
So what did they do to you?

[personal profile] inspiteful 2023-03-26 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I had to clean up one bastard's mess when I'd never met him because I was put down as collateral for a wager and the other god came to collect.

[ Hm. Too bad he can't word this any more strongly without things being lost in translation.

He pauses for a moment, debating if he wants to add what he ends up sending below. It's fine if he doesn't give any specific details or the nitty gritty stuff, he figures, and more than anything he's just relieved to know someone else has experience with the kind of tomfoolery gods pull.]

And I got a blessing I didn't ask for that's just caused bigger problems.

[ Nico has never felt such a big #mood. His own father wasn't as bad as Zeus, maybe, but he was still kind of a dick and Nico got stuck dealing with way too many problems gods created in general. That was the life of a demigod. ]

Yeah. When they try to help it can almost be worse than when they try to hurt.

[ Skylark's used to dealing with gods, but that's admittedly because he grew up knowing at least two personally. One of them had a jar of crackers they'd share with him whenever he visited them at the docks, even.

But those were "small gods", the local ones in charge of little and not-so-little things on the ground. He was not prepared for the sheer ridiculousness of the gods up in Heaven.

...That said, he doesn't know if the Unconquered Sun was actually trying to help him when he gave him his blessing. Sure it's the reason he didn't end up a smoking pile of ash at the time, but surely the all-seeing sun would know that most people now believe his blessing is a sign of demons actually? Then again, he was once told the sun saw "the potential for greatness" in his Chosen.

Maybe there was no point in him trying to figure out some god's ineffable plan. It was already done regardless.]

Honestly, I don't really know if they're even thinking about helping when they do whatever it is they do.

[personal profile] stygios 2023-03-27 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe some do. But the gods I've met have all been caught up in themselves.

[ And that trait in gods or in humans is never good for those around them. Nico knows that his godly parent wasn't thinking when he and Bianca were born. They weren't part of a plan then, but then he stashed them away until he could use them later.

Maybe Hades hadn't seen it like that, though. ]

Mortals who don't catch their eye must live happy lives.

[ There's a moment where Skylark sips his tea as he debates how honest he wants to be in his answer because the immediate one that comes to mind is an answer that he knows is pretty cynical.

...Well, it doesn't really feel right to sugarcoat it, either. ]

I don't know about that. There are plenty of miseries a mortal can experience without a god meddling.
stygios: <user name=velinxi site=twitter.com> (Athena)

[personal profile] stygios 2023-03-28 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. It's just a different type of misery? I guess I'd rather experience mortal ones than the alternative.
inspiteful: (Without doubt)

[personal profile] inspiteful 2023-03-28 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
[ He kind of wants to ask, "Do you, really?", but decides against it. It's not his place to make an assumption like that. ]

If you say so. Are you Godblooded?

[ It would certainly explain the amount of meddling that was apparently involved. ]
stygios: <user name=velinxi site=twitter.com> (Nemesis)

Son of the god of the underworld.
inspiteful: (pic#15249359)

[personal profile] inspiteful 2023-03-28 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
[

Skylark will figure out the implications of that later since he's having a moment of going "wait, the Underworld has a god???" and then remembers it's probably a different underworld.

More importantly, this is the first time he's ever met someone who's also the child of a god, and he's just running through a few different feelings in succession. ]

Suddenly "ghostking" makes a lot of sense.

Son of a navigation god.

It's just a title from back home.

Mom or dad?
inspiteful: (Because you gave love)

[personal profile] inspiteful 2023-03-28 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Ostensibly my dad.

[ "Ostensibly" because the idea of calling him his father still makes him want to not do so out of sheer spite. ]
stygios: <user name=velinxi site=twitter.com> (Aeneas)

[personal profile] stygios 2023-03-28 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds about right. Demigod or full god?
inspiteful: (skylark124)

[personal profile] inspiteful 2023-03-28 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It's a little weird for him, since "demigod" isn't what's normally used back home. You just say "Godblooded" and everyone knows what that means. ]

I supposed it'd be demigod? Mortal child of a god?
stygios: <user name=velinxi site=twitter.com> (Eros)

[personal profile] stygios 2023-03-29 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds right, yeah. One divine parent, one mortal.
inspiteful: (Swallowed by the cycle of despair)

inspiteful: (skylark114)

[personal profile] inspiteful 2023-03-29 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
You're the first one I've met at all, actually? Unless Godblooded dogs count.

[ Lark??? ]

[personal profile] stygios 2023-03-30 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
There's sort of training camps at home. Once you realize what you are, monsters tend to want you dead, so you don't make it long without some kind of training.

I think dogs can count.
inspiteful: (pic#14060063)

[personal profile] inspiteful 2023-03-30 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Is there any particular reason why the monsters would want you dead.

[ That was meant to be a question but he's busy going "what". ]
stygios: <user name=Marik_draw site=twitter.com> (Hades)

[personal profile] stygios 2023-03-31 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
They're attracted to the power demigods have. Usually they kill you, sometimes they eat you. So it's a good idea to get them first.
inspiteful: (Just show off; hate; betray!)

[personal profile] inspiteful 2023-03-31 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
I guess that makes sense...
