Mini Event: Network Misfires... 2!

It starts with a network post from a generic "researchcentre" account. The video feed shows what appears to be an empty cubicle, and a few employees gossiping in the background.

"Can't believe he brought the cat to work again."

"Who, Gary? Yeah, I heard Helene felt bad for him."

The cat in question creeps into the video, curiously nosing and pawing at the screen, as the conversation continues.

"I don't blame her. I saw his dream a couple weeks back, and Buttercup looked so sad alone at home!"

"Oh, that dream cloud thing? What a disaster. Can't believe Bartholomew holds down a job."

"At least it's been a couple years since the cat caused an incident..."

As if on cue, Buttercup gets bored and starts walking on the keyboard. The feed cuts off.

Welcome to a Mini Event! Much like last time around, the network server's having cat-related difficulty, so all network messages have a chance of going to the wrong recipient. It doesn't need to happen, but there's a high chance of misfires happening for the duration of the mini event.

This post can be used for sending out messages that can end up for anyone and everyone completely without meaning to. Feel free to also just send a blank message with your character and receive messages from others! Whatever works best for you and is most fun.

This event will happen for the whole weekend, starting from now and ending on late Sunday night (so March 6-9) once they finally manage to fix the mistake. As always, backtagging is encouraged.

Remember to put warnings up if you want to post anything NSFW-ish and especially link pictures; however, if anything gets explicit (e.g. sexting), remember to move it to inboxes or another post.

Katsuki's phone went off, indicating a message but when he checks to see who was bothering him it's... Shoto? Telling him he'll be late?? Late for what..? Did they plan something that Katsuki completely forgot about?????]

[Wasn't that Shoto's insane brother's name?? So many questions...]

He's Shinsengumi Vice Commander— ["So don't forget"!] And we made a shrine for Toya-nii.

[But since he's here-] I'd been hoping you could see it too.

Commander Dumbass.

[Katsuki will never put respect on Hijikata's name-- but, oh, the mention of a shrine for Shoto's brother has the blonde feeling some kind of way that he can't quite place. Conflicted? He doesn't like Toya-- the guy was an insane villain that, in Katsuki's brutally honest opinion, deserved to die.

But on the other hand, he was still Shoto's nii-chan...]

I don't know about visiting your brother's shrine. I mean... you sure he'd like having me up there? I'm not exactly known for being respectful.

["especially to villains" is something he almost writes, but deletes before sending his message.]

[If he were insane, it'd make his many, many crimes somehow far "less" egregious; and instead, leave him morally and still-lawfully "exempt". He was not. If they weren't so linked, it might make things a little easier swallowed; but he's faced with his conflict of lingering love, grief and guilt. The blood still counts. The Villain still counts. He doesn't forget, and while those crimes still exist, he can't scrape the empathy from the base of his thoughts.

There's no excuse.]

It's not that I'd ask you to pay him respects. With what he did-

It's us who owe you an apology still.

[Katsuki is taken aback when he gets his texts from Shoto. The other boy telling him that he was owed an apology. For what? Shoto didn't do anything. He didn't make his brother do all those things, and participate in that kidnapping. So it doesn't feel right for him to say "us".]

What are you talking about? Apology? There's no need for something like that.

I won. I don't need an apology from anyone. I won and I'm alive. And that's the only thing that matters.

[He doesn't want Shoto feeling guilty for anything that happened to him. And he also knows it probably means something to Shoto if he went to the shrine with him, so he follows this up with an agreement.]

I'll go with you to Toya's shrine. But I seriously don't need you apologizing for anything. You didn't do anything wrong, Todoroki.

[It's certainly not "all that matters"!]

How can you let it go so easily now?

[It's hard to believe, given Hero society's sudden and new distrust of the boy. A brother of Dabi's can't play Hero, right? It's still his fault; his own cursed blood an indelible stain on what good legacy's left. Not because Endeavor was cruel, but knowing the man creates Villains. Best the whole family rots in the filth. He's used to blame; and if civilians revoked their trust, it's Katsuki's right to blame him too. He doesn't say, because Katsuki's a wall, and he isn't as keen to knowingly waste his own breath. And who's more stubborn between the two?]

I'd thought you of all people would foster a grudge.

[To be fair to Shoto, and his worries about being ostracized for his family as society had done-- Katsuki hasn't gotten that far in his own timeline, yet. He's fresh off the battlefield, so anything that happened afterwards is a complete mystery to him. Though, he'd disagree with the public even if he was that far down his own timeline. Because...]

I DO hold a grudge. I hate every single fucking person who tried to ruin everything for us. Your brother is no exception. I don't feel anything for him besides anger and resentment.

But you're NOT him, Todoroki. [a pause, as he decides not to use his last name for this point he's making.] You're Shoto.

And you're not your family's sins. Whatever he did shouldn't have to reflect on you. You shouldn't be taking the blame. It's pointless for you to when HE'S the one that should be apologizing. Not you.

[Katsuki doesn't believe in punishing Shoto for what his family had done. He's one of the nicest people he knows, who wouldn't hurt someone like that on his own... it bothers him that this is something Shoto feels the need to apologize for.]

Plus, the only thing your brother really did to me personally was help with all that summer camp bullshit. And you were one of the ones who saved me despite knowing it was a bad idea.

So you made it up to me already. A long time ago.
