Mini Event: Network Misfires... 2!

It starts with a network post from a generic "researchcentre" account. The video feed shows what appears to be an empty cubicle, and a few employees gossiping in the background.

"Can't believe he brought the cat to work again."

"Who, Gary? Yeah, I heard Helene felt bad for him."

The cat in question creeps into the video, curiously nosing and pawing at the screen, as the conversation continues.

"I don't blame her. I saw his dream a couple weeks back, and Buttercup looked so sad alone at home!"

"Oh, that dream cloud thing? What a disaster. Can't believe Bartholomew holds down a job."

"At least it's been a couple years since the cat caused an incident..."

As if on cue, Buttercup gets bored and starts walking on the keyboard. The feed cuts off.

Welcome to a Mini Event! Much like last time around, the network server's having cat-related difficulty, so all network messages have a chance of going to the wrong recipient. It doesn't need to happen, but there's a high chance of misfires happening for the duration of the mini event.

This post can be used for sending out messages that can end up for anyone and everyone completely without meaning to. Feel free to also just send a blank message with your character and receive messages from others! Whatever works best for you and is most fun.

This event will happen for the whole weekend, starting from now and ending on late Sunday night (so March 6-9) once they finally manage to fix the mistake. As always, backtagging is encouraged.

Remember to put warnings up if you want to post anything NSFW-ish and especially link pictures; however, if anything gets explicit (e.g. sexting), remember to move it to inboxes or another post.

1. 02:37: IT WORKS.
02:42: False alarm. It does not work.
02:59: FIXED IT. IT WORKS NOW.

2. 03:25: So, if we built a robot, what should we name it. Gearson? Hexton?
03: 26: Harold?
03: 27: I'll think in the morning.

3. 06:02: I slept. Did you sleep in the lab?
roundandaround: Worriedly playing with a straw. (you think?)

From the what who what?
roundandaround: Shameless smile. (smile smile smile)

I think it came from this old guy someone saw in a movie theatre or something.

I understand all those words separately.

But I'm not familiar with what you're talking about.
roundandaround: Confused. (wait what)

[personal profile] roundandaround 2025-03-09 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess that makes sense, different worlds might have different memes. I mean, different countries do sometimes. Now I wonder why that's not the case more often.

Gearson has potential depending on the design ⚙️
but I think you should sleep on it! names can be important

Still working out the design. But I'm assuming it will have gears. It will be awhile. I kind of like Gearson, too. Since he'd be made of gears, at least in part.
ghostfromthemachine: (if you're gonna fall I'll let you know)

Mostly because we can.

So for fun, I guess.

I see.

well
as someone who was created at least partially "because someone could"
I hope you'll forgive me for just getting a whole lot nosier :)
any plans for sapience?

[personal profile] malleiform 2025-03-10 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Were you? Interesting.

But no, that's not in the plans. Not looking to create life.
ghostfromthemachine: (it took a crane all day)

it's a long and not entirely pleasant story!

I do appreciate not having to worry in that direction

I believe you meant to send this to someone else but good luck on your device I presume?

[ Look, Hermes knows a thing or two about this song and dance. We don't talk about his failed creations. Ever. ]

I certainly had. I could have sworn that I typed his name in here. Fortunately, it isn't that important. Thank you, though! I need any ounce of luck I can get.
answerseeker: ([19] - Conundrum indeed)

[personal profile] answerseeker 2025-03-08 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ok, that has his curiosity. Despite neglecting it for what seems like forever, he hadn't become the chief researcher on Elpis because of a lack of curiosity. ]

If I may intrude - May I ask what you are working on?

My partner and I are working on a robot.

In 4 minutes I'll get a "broken again" text?
malleiform: (pic#17573948)

[personal profile] malleiform 2025-03-10 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no, I hope not. Sorry, don't know how I did this. Must be sleep deprived.

But sometimes I work best like that.

The solution is permanent as far as I can tell. If it breaks again I'm just going to start over.
