I don't want to be the same as I was before. But I don't think I've ever changed either. I've been the same my whole life.

[ This is one of Eren's hypocrisies, in the end. He's said he's the same. He's said he's not the person he was. He believes both things at different times.

Of course he's changed. People are not static, even ones who live in weird time loop hell. There are things about him that are more the same than he would have realised when he was young, but even the choice to leave was a choice, and an unforeseen one.

A year ago, Eren wouldn't have apologised to Levi for accidentally pulling everyone into that shared confusing memory space. It wouldn't have occurred to him at all.

Maybe that's all better really is, just making the choice to be less terrible one small chance at a time. ]

I think there are parts of us that probably do never change. Something has to make us who we are, and it can't only be our actions.
