[It's a video of a young man (around 18) standing sitting on a couch. Somehow making this kind of a post had become a habit. But if they had yet another world to save, he supposed it was going to be useful to know.]
We get a lot of these kinds of posts, but since we're just starting I guess that's understandable. So one more, at least.
[He's not a stranger to the network, but it still felt pretty awkward to make a post, especially now that this was yet another group of mostly strangers.]
My name is Jean Kirstein and I'm a soldier deployed in a branch called Survey Corps, which is basically a combat unit meant to fight the monsters in our world and gain back the lands we lost.
[A simple enough introduction and also a lead into why he's making this post.]
I wanted to know many of us here have military experience? I figured it would be useful to know so we could either train together or teamup otherwise when needed. Especially if our experiences align well.
[He shrugs, then.]
Or if you're not in military, maybe you can tell about what it's like, if you know.

Fighting monsters, huh? Not the usual thing a military sets out to do... What sort of monsters we talking about?
But, as for experience; I was a commander of a large army during my human life, so we can say I have some experience in the military, for sure.
[ He might be understating it a bit, but he figures the kid may have questions about 'my human life' there, unless a servant already explained that to him at some point. ]
no subject
We did end up fighting humans, too, but killing monsters was what we were mainly trained to do. [Killing humans was never in the job describtion.] I'm guessing you've never heard of Titans?
[He could just explain straight away, but he's curious to see what his reply to 'titans' might be.
And even if he's not aware of Servants, he's also not gonna question 'my human life' because he's met enough of people who are something other than human and he's not surprised if someone used to be human. Not after home.]
I'd say being a commander is more than just some experience.

[ And... The mention of the word 'Titans'?
...Napoleon had no memories of the Scandinavian Lostbelt. He was a completely new manifestation of the Servant Napoleon Bonaparte. The only thing he carried over, the only thing, was a name- Ophelia. Down to the core of his being, he'd carry that name, along with Josephine's, probably for as long as he was summoned.
And yet, something about how the other man was talking brought on memories of what Maître had told him. What Scathach-Skadi had spoken of-- recalling the giants he had apparently fought. His own last stand there was against such a Giant, after all... or so he was told. ]
Oui, in a way. 'Titan' where I am from usually refer to a particular group of Greek Gods, who ruled before the current Olympian Generation of Gods took over. But that term has also been used to refer to 'Giants' in general. They don't exist in the time I've come from, normally, but I have fought them before due to... unusual circumstances.
[ Napoleon let out a laugh. He sounded ridiculous, trying to talk around his experience.]
Probably doesn't make much sense, huh? I had a pretty regular 'human' existence, commanding officer aside, but as I am now, I get to see a lot of strange shit.

I can't claim to be the best of anything, but I do train all the time to stay in shape. And I would definitely welcome more tips in how to improve.

Don't sell yourself short, man - even the best can get better. I'd be happy to offer tips, you could probably teach me a thing or two, too.

I'm familiar with life being a battlefield, but I've never and will never serve. Governments aren't something I trust in. [Nor do they trust in him, not that he'll say as much here.]

[He could also say that Military Police was very different from what he thought it would be back home, but he won't.]
Having some experience with battles is still very useful in the situation we're in.

[ he technically gets credit for helping to develop the concept of the modern navy in japan, but he's too humble to suggest any of that. ]
Plus, I'm pretty handy with a sword and know my way around guns! The monster fighting came much later.

[He has no concept of naval fighting, there is nothing like that where he's from in his point in time.]

[ it was only a couple of sea battles, but that's a couple of sea battles more than most people. ]
I got to fire the big gun a few times too! Oh man, that sure was a lot of fun...
And anyway, the most important thing you learn working on a ship is how to be a part of a crew.

["Mere" would seem to be the word for this one. Alisaie - not to put too fine a point on it - looks as if she may be around twelve, and small for her age at that. But she certainly speaks with confidence. Is it warranted? At a glance, it's impossible to tell.]
And, should it prove to be the latter, how specific would that experience have to be? I've certainly fought alongside soldiers before, though I owe my own allegiances to no militia.
no subject
I guess my main interest is finding people who can work together, who have experience in doing so. So not strictly military... but I was also curious about how many there are here who have general experience.

Your monsters—how would you describe them to people who don't have any idea or may have a different idea?
But to answer your question, I do have military experience. It just maybe not the kind of military experience that you're familiar with.
no subject
[Just a normal day in monsterville...]
I didn't expect I'd be familiar with many of the military styles people here have. It's likely my own is vastly different too.
