Hello! My name is Asami. I currently work at the Research Center in general technology and I'm a Spring.
[That's a quick and nice introduction from this lady before actually getting into why she's contacting the network, sitting in a living room dressed in fairly comfortable and casual clothes.]
I'm very interested in technology in general and wish to know what kind of technological level you have back in your worlds. My own isn't even closed to what they have here. Our telephones have landlines, for example, and our cars look nothing like the ones here. So it's been a new and wonderful experience.
[She's made plenty of new discoveries so far.]
Or you could tell me what's your favorite technological thing you've discovered while being here... or even just an app on these smartphones.

[Remember her? She hasn't fallen off the edge of an airship yet!]
The technology where I come from is nothing like here, I'm finding all of it almost too much to take in at once. It's hard to pick one thing to start with.
no subject
[That's always a good thing...!]
I know what you mean. It can sometimes be a bit too much. It took me days to figure out what project to go with at work.
But! They finally let me look at the airshop bluebrints properly.
no subject
[Because if Asami did... well, she's about to have a new best friend. Being able to examine the workings of an airship firsthand would be the ideal but if she could look at some blueprints that would at least sate her curiosity for the time being.]
Where are you working?
no subject
[Looking through the real thing would be the ideal, but sometimes you had to settle for the second best. Though if she played her cards right, maybe she'd be able to get them both into where they work on the airships~]
In the Research Center's general technology side, even if I do sometimes work at the mecha suit hangars... which is how I came across the chance of airship related things.
no subject
['Mecha suit hangar'??? She has no idea what that is, but it sounds like something she wants in on right this second. Guizhong has not found herself anything like permanent employment just yet though she has mentally acknowledged the need for it, given her lack of ability to engage in the more combat-oriented 'quests' that seem to bring in the most coins.
Besides, being in a position to do more research sounds ideal.]

[ Not that she's entirely sure that she'd join something like that even with her love of technology and information gathering. ]
Back home, the technology wasn't on this level--I know a large part of it is probably because 'magic' didn't really exist, but there are just some levels that we hadn't actually achieved just yet.
The world I was in before this one was a bit more advanced, and I knew someone that was good at creating pretty advanced things to the point where it was basically a fashion statement. Honestly, my favorite technological thing that I've discovered thus far... I'd probably have to say probably these devices. Ah- don't get me wrong, we have things like this at home, but the transformative factor is what makes them unique.
no subject
[She also occasionally works at the mecha suit hangar, but that's still a new thing so she didn't mention it.]
Magic is definitely a factor in some of the technology here. Most of them still work without it, which is good because I'm more comfortable with magic staying out of technology.
The transformation of these phones is definitely something. It's so ease to fold them into something smaller to take with you and bigger if you need it. I'm still learning a lot about the device in general though.
no subject
[ It's been a while since she's gotten to talk about this stuff, so if there's a bit of bubble of interest- you're not imagining it. ]
Honestly, I'm personally glad for it, as well. Really not used to magitech crap- pardon my language- so if I'm working on something, I'd at least rather have it stay mundane.
[ Mostly because she has barely any good experiences with magic and tech being combined. But that's not something that she needs to bring up, especially not on a first meeting. ]
Yeah. Having a laptop and a phone is just- Kind of crazy, to be honest. It allows for a lot of things to be done with it, especially if you're utilizing apps.
no subject
[It is nice seeing someone be so interested. She's still new to the whole coding aspect of things, but she's learning.]
No need to apologize. I'm quite used to rough language. But yes, I've never really worked with "magic" properly but from what I've seen here, I wouldn't want to mix them unless strictly necessary. Which shouldn't be!
[Except maybe in the mechas to fight the dark energy of the segments, but that's a different story.]
What apps have you found most useful so far?
no subject
[ Anyway- ]
Basically.
Apps that are most useful- I don't really use too many, personally. Notepad and recording applications are my go-tos. That might be a bit boring, though.

I'm in rather the opposite situation. This world is significantly less developed than what I am used to, in some respects, at least. Where I come from, humanity long ago mastered space flight, and now live spread across the vastness of the stars. Advances in manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and psychic communication have changed the economy such that most citizens do not buy or sell goods through market transactions but simply obtain them upon request at local resource centers— though what they can get is, unfortunately dependent on social class. The average person lives past two hundred, and children may be born in cloning tanks without the need for pregnancy.
But we do not have widespread teleportation in our transportation networks, the ability to contact other worlds, and certainly not to reverse death.
no subject
[Even if she's unsure what she thinks of artificial intelligences or clone tanks, but that's something to think about some other moment.]
Well, the last two seem to be solely linked to magic, at least. Even if they are definitely working on their medical skills in that department.
no subject
Oh, I thought it was so cool when I was a kid, but when I actually got on a ship for the first time I hated it. It's cramped and noisy, and usually the food is very bad.
Why would you say that "magic" is something separate from technology? I don't think it is at all.
no subject
[Ah, she already dreamed of a wonderful space vessel.]
They seem too fundamentally different to be the same. I personally don't want to mix the two if I can help it. Not many things in the center seem to do so either.

Well met, Mistress Asami. I am Ser Aymeric de Borel, and I am a recently-arrived Winter. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance.
To begin with your second topic, I quite like the smartphones themselves so far. Between the various apps, and the ability to connect to this very network, they have a remarkable versatility for communication. This is, in fact, my first time using the - I believe it is called "video" function.
no subject
[It's weird to be addressed so formally and it's kind of awkward to reply like that in return, but she doesn't want to sound too rude either.]
They are definitely something else. It makes me wish that we had something like this at home, for long distance communication. Letters work, yes, but they take very long and the phones I mentioned don't always work.
no subject
As do I. Such devices in my would would change many lives for the better - even save some. The closest we have are small communication items called linkpearls, which are worn in the ear. Unfortunately, they connect to one another through the aether, which means their functionality can be compromised by disruptions in aetheric currents. Their connections are also easily intercepted.
Oh, but I've not responded to your initial query, have I? Much of our world relies on the use of magic, which draws upon the aforementioned aetheric currents. However, some advancements in technology are being made, mainly from machinery taken from the Garlean Empire. Their technology is fuelled by a substance called ceruleum instead of magic, though it is called magitek. My own city-state, Ishgard, is home to the Skysteel Manufactory, which is a renowned centre of engineering.
no subject
[That's a lot of new words, but nothing Asami can't handle. It's been a lot of new things working in the Research Center, too.]
What kind of technological advancement are we talking about here?
sorry for the delay!
no worries!

[ As for her inquiry: ] It's kinda weird, 'cause there's things that're more and less advanced here? Like we didn't have smartphones, but we had giant fighting robots and AI. And I'm pretty used to holograms, though the images are a lot sharper here. [ And that's just scratching the (spoiler-free) surface. ]
no subject
[This is likely the first time she's been called -chan, but she's starting to get used to people addressing others in different ways and not get too confused.]
The research center does have a mecha suit, or robot?, hangar they're developing things like that in. They're not quite ready to work yet, since there's a lot to adjust but I've worked a little with them. We do have some robots back home, as well, but they are far less developed than even what they have here right now.
