[ The video opens to a man sitting criss-cross applesauce in a patch of grass, looking some mix of exhausted, irritated, and resigned. The reason for his poor mood is clear enough. With all the cactus spines sticking out of his face (he looks like he has whiskers), arms, and chest, it looks for all the world like he fell face-first into a cactus patch. Which...isn't too far from the truth. The only difference is he didn't so much fall as he was mercilessly attacked and turned into a pin cushion.

A very fluffy, corgi-sized German Shepherd(?) with unique coloring is either trying to play with or comfort him. With how energetic and wiggly she is, it's unclear which one she's actually going for. Jinhai, not wanting her to get poked by one of the needles, is trying to gently push her to the side. It's not really working as intended. ]

C'mon, I'm bein' serious here. I'll draw you a bone later, so just settle down.

[ Finally listening to him, the dog seems to shrink??? in size??? as she hunkers down and slowly crawls towards him. She gently licks his hand (phone and all), whines sadly, and then flops onto his leg, defeated. Once she's settled, Jinhai finally tilts his phone up to address everyone properly, idly petting Yina with his free hand as he does so. He lets out a long, LOOOONG sigh. Time to get this over with. ]

Hey, so. If anyone's got some free time, I need a little help. I tried to fight some of those cacti critters in the spring segment and it didn't...exactly go well. I took care of 'em in the end, but not before I got sprayed by a bunch of their needles.

[ So many needles. Removing them was going to be such a pain. ]

I can get some of them myself, but the little sh--[ He starts to say "shits" but corrects himself. Kids could be listening. ]--guys managed to hit my back, so I can't reach most of the stupid things.

If anyone can lend a hand or two, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

[ The camera's view tilts to the sky as Jinhai absentmindedly flops onto his back. There's a pained yelp and a cut off curse as the video ends. ]

[ Well...he can't really say this was the kind of tradeoff he was expecting. It's an easy enough offer to agree to, though. Even if he doesn't quite know what to make of it. ]

Huh...I guess that makes sense. Useful.

[ Well! That was a much more normal response than he was expecting. At least it wasn't something potentially sinister...like weird blood magic or something. ]

They're all yours, then. It'll make me feel better, knowin' they were used for something good.

[ It makes being turned into a human pincushion almost worth it. Almost. ]

I'd rather help people when I can in the first place, and it'd be a waste to not use them when they're readily available to me.

That's a good mindset to have. As for where I am...uh...somewhere in the Spring Segment?

[ He gives a description of where he went and his general surroundings. He's not too far out from the city. ]

I'll be on my way. Don't move from that spot.

You've got it, miss apothecary.

[ True to his word, he stays right where he is. ]

[ And she's on her way over, trying to be quick about it, but obviously it will take her a bit. ]

[ He expects as much, and tries to stay as still as possible while he waits. When he spots her he gives her a lazy wave (and winces when he does). He's trying to keep his dog from running over to enthusiastically greet her.

Jinhai's mostly successful, though the dog is growing and shrinking in size to try and wriggle free. ]

Don't worry, she's friendly. Just excited.

[ Cat ears pop up in surprise, causing Maomao to jump in a bit of surprise. She's not exactly good at handlng dogs... ]

Anyway, I brought over some medicine to help. [ She takes out a bottle from her satchel and hands it over. ] Don't drink it until I take out the needles, though.

[Bro? Dage. BIG BROTHER.

WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED FOR YOU TO END UP LIKE THAT??

This. THIS is how you're finally reunited after SEVEN YEARS. Absolutely unbelievable.]

[You're getting voice, because she does not want you or anyone else seeing her cry, and she lacks Mari's proficiency with hacking and encryption and all of that computer nonsense and tomfoolery.]

Why were you picking a fight with them in the first place?? I've been here for less than a day and this is how I find you, dage??

[ Even after so many years, he would recognize his sister's voice anywhere. He just wasn't expecting to hear it here of all places. ]

[ He's happy to hear her voice again, but his heart aches at the same time. This wasn't how he wanted their reunion to go. He had wanted to be much sooner than this, with the whole family present and their dad finally awake.

He needs to take a moment to compose himself before he responds. ]

Look, I was tryin' to help! I figured moving cacti would be easy enough to get rid of, how was I supposed to know they'd be this much of a pain in the ass?

[ Yina, also recognizing Meilin's voice, perks up and starts to look around. When she doesn't see her anywhere, she gets restless and starts to whine. Jinhai ignores her for now. ]

But hey, there's no need to worry, okay? I'm fine, I just got...an unexpected acupuncture treatment.

You and Mari, I swear... Your compassion is going to get you killed one day, and then I'm going to find a way to resurrect you just to kick your ass again!

[She loves you more than life itself, Jinhai, truly she does. But she's been left to wrestle with a lot of really vulnerable emotions for the better part of a day (and the past SEVEN. YEARS.) and it's worn on her control quite a bit for this moment. It's your fault anyway! You've got her worried sick! If Mari or their father were here right now they'd already be bawling their eyes out!

She's relieved a little bit, though, because a part of her was scared that she might have forgotten how Jinhai registered to her senses because of how long it had been. Almost ten years, after all. But no, he sounds like how she remembers him, just a bit more pained and tired.

It's Yina's barking that snaps her out of it. He'll hear the sound of her gathering her keys- snatching them really -and precious little else. She's going to come scour the entire segment if she has to so-]

You're clearly NOT fine! Tell me where you are. I'm coming there right now.

[ There's a long moment of hesitation before he answers, not because he doesn't want to see her, but because he doesn't want her to see him looking so beat up. He's not about to keel over or anything, but he definitely looks worse for wear, and he doesn't want her to fret more than she already is. He's already caused her enough distress, having been gone as long as he has been, so he doesn't want to add onto that. Not if he can help it.

He's so glad to hear her voice, though. He's missed his family dearly, and though he misses their WHOLE family, he's glad it was Meilin that showed up over anyone else. Mari would be a mess, Sen and the quints are...Sen and the quints. And he's not sure he could look either of their parents in the eyes (assuming Zhi would be awake if he were brought here).

Meilin, out of anyone, would handle this situation best. More than that, though...out of all of them, she was the most likely to have buried how much his absence hurt her, which may have led to less support from the people around her. So if he can help soothe some of the pain he caused, even if she never admits to how much of it there is, then he wants to. ]

Hey, I'm not that much of a bleedin' heart! I...[ He sighs, resigned. He's already "fighting" an over-excited, size-changing dog. He doesn't want to fight with his sister on top of that. ]...never mind. Kick my ass all you want once I've gotten patched up.

I don't know where I am exactly. Somewhere in the Spring Segment, not too far from the city.

[She's taking the steps one at a time but at twice her usual speed, and heading up rather than down. Once she's outside she can get airborne, so her goal is rooftop access. All that she can think about is how it's been seven years since she'd been able to talk to him, since she heard him or saw him in something other than family videos and photos or old voice mails that she secretly kept on her phone the day she learned he'd disappeared.

Not that much of a bleeding heart, he says, and yet she's sure that the reason he left had something to do with protecting them. Their mother hadn't really shared much when her powers manifested, but she'd shared just enough for Meilin to draw her own conclusions.

She's tense as she listens for his reply, not sure if he'd answer and answer honestly, but it finally does come, and she's glad he's not fighting her on this.]

I'll be there in ten minutes, tops.

[True to her word, it takes her some time to find him, and when she does she makes sure to drop out of sight into some trees to change back before she approaches. The last thing she wants to do is startle him into hurting himself again if he hasn't had the needles removed by the time she gets to him.

So, seven minutes after her initial contact (heh...), Meilin makes her approach.

She can't heal him, and she hates that. She can't even hug him in that state, and she hates that even more, but she at least wants to be there with him. How long had his post been live before she got to it? How close or far away was the nearest person who offered to help? She didn't know, but he's within sight now, and she's not wasting time on hesitating to ask herself questions. Whether he's alone or not, she reaches where he and Yina are and she just seems... momentarily overwhelmed. Her eyes are reflecting a lot of complicated emotions, but she knows where she wants to start. She just... can't seem to find words.

It's been such a long time, and he's finally in front of her again... If only both of their parents and siblings could be here for the reunion, too. Maybe it's for the best they aren't.]

Dage...

[ Wen Kexing tries not to laugh. And yet his lips clearly are twitching before the white-haired man hides the lower part of his face with a fan. ]

If you have not received a suitable offer of aide, I'd be happy to come remove whatever spikes remain and heal the damage left behind.

[ He wishes he could be mad about the barely hidden amusement. He really does. But he gets it. If he were on the other end of this situation, he'd probably have the same reaction.

And honestly, once enough time has passed, it'll probably be pretty funny to look back on this whole thing. ]

I think someone's comin' to help, but thanks for the offer.

[ Yina, hearing an unfamiliar voice, is very curious and so she starts trying to see whats going on. Which involves more jumping and getting close to the needles. Jinhai tries to keep her at arms length which...just leads to her growing in size.

He does his best to ignore her. ]

So you can heal people? Just like that?

[Dude, that looks painful. That last move also was not the smartest. Ow.]

... Well now I'm glad I went after the dullahan first, and not the cacti.

[ He can't tell if that's supposed to be some kind of weird flex or not but it earns an amused snort all the same.

MORE IMPORTANTLY. BEEF! BOWLS! He worked up quite the appetite running around like he did, and man oh man do both beef bowls and ramen sound HEAVENLY right now. ]

Damn, both of those sound delicious. It's been a while since I've been able to have a good beef bowl. Or ramen? Ah, man, don't even get me started. My stomach's rumblin' already.

[Not so much a weird flex, more a weird attempt at consolation. This guy must've had it rough, wherever he came from, if it's been a while. Rather than pry, though, Jinwoo texts the address for the location in Nightwake and sends that over.]

You might like some of the places in Sunwaning too, then. There's a decent number of Asian inspired places there. Most of the sections seem to be based on different parts of the world, and that area between summer and autumn seems like it took its cues from Japan.

[ An address! Wonderful. Phenomenal. 10/10. This man just became Jinhai's new favorite person. Maybe it's a little silly to get this excited about food, but it's been so long since he was able to have good Asian food. ]
