How do you tell the difference between romantic love and platonic love?
Everyone I've asked so far has given me a different answer.

You need help figuring it out or is this more of a philosophical conversation?

For me it's pretty simple, I don't have steamy thoughts about people I'm not romantically attracted too, and if I somehow do end up with a thought like that it creeps me out a little.
[Easy for him to say, he hasn't actually had much experience with romantic love]
But I think if it was that simple for everyone we wouldn't have nearly as many drama shows on TV.

It'd be nice if this was simple and easy to identify and define! Really big fan of things being simple.

So you trying to figure this out for one person in particular or just sorting out your feelings in general?

For me, it's a little bit of a different feeling that I have for someone I'm into romantically, versus a friend I'm sleeping with. Butterflies in my stomach, I think is the cliche. A bit of jealousy that I don't have with friends. It can be a bit subtle, unfortunately.

Sure would be nice if this were simple and easy to understand.

Have you ever been into someone romantically before, where you're sure that was the case?

blank confusion
followed by
tripping and falling into a merry-go-round spinning really really fast and also it's on a roller coaster oh god what the fuck is happening
and then panicked flustered confusion and the urge to run away and hide

And it makes sense if you haven't, too!
People experience different types of love and attachment in all kinds of different ways
Plus the whole
spectrum thing

Look at them for a while. If at any point you feel like you want to put your mouth on them, it's probably romantic.

To put it more unhelpfully, it's different with every relationship. At least in my experience.
no subject
It's already sounding like it's different between people, but being different for the same person with different relationships is even worse? How is anyone supposed to figure it out then??
no subject
Either painstakingly or painfully or both. It's not something you can force into your consciousness. And if your life is like mine the realizations hit you with epically terrible timing.
